Job Summary
The Parks and Recreation Director is responsible for the maintenance of all City parks facilities cemetery city-owned buildings and surrounding grounds. Employee is required to perform all other similar or related duties.
Essential Job Functions
- Attendance physically present to work.
- Responsible for overseeing and planning the maintenance of all City Park grounds facilities City cemetery city-owned buildings and surrounding grounds.
- Responsible for the preparation and administration of the departments operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee the solicitation of quotes to purchase materials supplies and equipment.
- Oversee the sale of cemetery plots and coordinates with funeral homes funeral services.
- Oversee youth and adult soccer and soft-ball leagues.
- Oversees scheduling and maintenance of city pools. Coordinate Gus & Goldie swimming sessions and scheduling of lifeguards for the season.
- Oversees scheduling of pool rental for special events.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of a four-year college with a Bachelors degree in Recreation Management of related field and three to five years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Applicants must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at Citys expense.
- Must have current valid Class C Texas Driver License and be insurable.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of maintaining park facilities equipment and grounds.
- Considerable knowledge of materials methods safety precautions and techniques related to recreational maintenance operation.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures at recreation parks and facilities including risk management.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective budgetary management.
- Working knowledge of computer hardware and software in support of department operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of all ages incomes and backgrounds.
- Ability to develop innovative cost-effective programs to meet community needs.
- Ability to prepare and administer budgets.
- Abilit to recruit training and supervise subordinate personnel effectively.
- Ability to utilize data-based systems to assist in the design and evaluation of programs.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records in a detailed and organized manner.
- Ability to deal tactfully with disgruntled members of the public and also under emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a discrete manner.
- Ability to function independently within the broad scope of municipal and department policies and goals.
- Strong communication skills; oral and written.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks with intermittent periods of stooping walking and standing.
- Occasional lifting of objects such as recreation equipment (up to 30lbs.)
