Quality Engineer
Our client an industry leading fabrication company is seeking a Quality Engineer to play a key role on their manufacturing team.
Responsibilities:
* Review incoming project packages drawings and customer requirements to ensure they can be manufactured as planned and that all technical details are correctly incorporated.
* Recommend alternative production approaches or improvements after evaluating drawings specifications and existing processes.
* Set up quality checks and in-process controls that guide teams during fabrication and assembly.
* Assess the capability of machines measuring tools and production processes by running capability studies and interpreting the results.
* Use statistical tools to pinpoint root causes of recurring production issues and propose corrective measures.
* Apply statistical techniques to monitor ongoing work and verify product acceptance.
* Translate contract quality requirements into clear instructions for purchasing including quality clauses for suppliers.
* Perform quality system audits at supplier locations and document findings.
* Oversee the companys internal audit schedule review audit outcomes and track corrective actions to completion.
* Review customer-reported quality concerns and determine the appropriate disposition.
* Work with planning and inspection teams to resolve issues related to inspection steps and instructions.
* Verify material certifications certificates of compliance and supporting documentation in a timely manner.
* Assist in preparing final documentation packages (history books) and resolve any technical discrepancies in the record.
* Act as the primary point of contact for customers on quality-related topics for assigned contracts.
Requirements:
* Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline preferably Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
* Experience in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment is helpful.
* Familiarity with basic engineering principles and their application to manufacturing processes.
* Ability to identify quality issues early in production and help implement practical solutions.
* Comfort working within cross-functional teams across engineering manufacturing and inspection.
* Strong computer skills including ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook).
* Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings weld symbols and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
* Understanding of common fabrication processes such as forming machining welding cutting and finishing.
* Experience with inspection tools such as micrometers calipers height gauges bore gauges and surface measurement equipment.
* Familiarity with non-destructive testing processes (visual inspection dye penetrant magnetic particle) or willingness to learn.
* Knowledge of material traceability requirements and how documentation ties back to raw material heat numbers.
* Basic understanding of welding procedures welder qualifications and weld quality standards.
* Ability to develop or review inspection plans process sheets and first-article packages.
* Experience working within ISO 9001 AS9100 or defense-related quality systems is a plus.
