Position Summary
The Access Control Coordinator is responsible for the planning administration and ongoing support of the universitys electronic access control systems. This role ensures that access permissions schedules hardware and software are managed effectively and securely. The Coordinator serves as a central contact for campus stakeholders coordinates with vendors and supports long-term planning to maintain reliable and compliant access control across all university facilities. This position will work closely with IT services Safety & Security and Facilities Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage user access across campus systems including setup for faculty staff students contractors and guests. Configure schedules permissions and temporary access in line with university policies.
- Monitor system performance investigate alerts and access issues and coordinate maintenance for card readers locks controllers and related hardware/software.
- Support lifecycle planning for access control technology including evaluating procuring and standardizing hardware and software and contributing to renovations and construction projects.
- Liaise with vendors on upgrades roadmaps and service support to ensure systems meet evolving campus needs.
- Ensure access control practices align with institutional policies regulatory requirements and industry standards and collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop consistent processes and resolve access challenges.
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma or degree in a relevant technical field (e.g. security systems information technology engineering) or equivalent experience.
- 35 years experience with access control systems security technologies or enterprise IT environments; experience coordinating with vendors or contractors is an asset.
- Proficient with access control software and hardware including system configuration troubleshooting and basic networking or system integration concepts.
- Strong analytical organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communicator able to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and manage vendor relationships
- Flexible and adaptable capable of supporting daily operations as well as long-term planning initiatives.
