What You Will Do
Counsel individuals and groups throughout all phases of career development including exploration preparation and job search.
Help students identify and overcome barriers to selecting a major and determining career direction and assist with decisions related to personal and career goals.
Administer and interpret career assessments for individuals and groups.
Assist with writing cover letters résumés thank-you letters graduate school applications job applications and other professional correspondence.
Teach networking skills interviewing skills and effective internship and full-time job search strategies.
Guide students in using campus and career resources such as informational interviews online tools Cougar Jobline career fairs internship recognition processes professional attire support and social media.
Conduct presentations and workshops on a wide range of career-related topics.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Masters degree in counseling college student personnel psychology or related degree; course work should include foundations or psychological measurements and the measurement of interest and personality
Preferred Qualifications- 1-3 years of experience with career counseling especially in higher education career counseling or advising.
- National certification in administering and interpreting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Interest in working with students with disabilities and student veterans
- Demonstrated experience with one-on-one unsupervised career planning appointments
- Demonstrated experience writing critiquing and reviewing student resumes
- Ability to present in large and small group settings
- Event planning or project management experience in career services
- Familiarity with Career Services databases (12Twenty Handshake Symplicity)
- Ability to create classroom presentations on career related topics using PowerPoint or other media
Please Note- Must be available to work evenings and occasional weekends.
- Requires strong communication skills.
- Position may involve extended periods of time sitting at a desk extended periods of time standing at events departmental tables and presentations and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs for departmental activities.
