The TEST DATE is scheduled for Monday December 1 2025 at 8:30 am at the Downtown Event Centre 700 Crockett Street Beaumont TX 77701 (MUST PRESENT A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE AT THE TEST LOCATION). The test will be cognitive skills only (No fire or EMS knowledge assumed).
Upon the City of Beaumonts receipt of your application further information regarding the testing process will be sent to you via the email address you provided on your application. Essential Job Functions: Work is performed under the direct supervision in accordance with explicit instructions and well-defined procedures; however satisfactory performance of the work requires initiative and a thorough understanding of firefighting fire prevention and rescue methods and techniques; work is reviewed by superiors through observation and results obtained. Responds to alarm of fire or other emergencies with a pumper or ladder company; lays and connects hoses; holds nozzles and directs fog or water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers bars hooks lines and other equipment; occasionally drives Fire/EMS equipment; ventilates burning buildings by opening windows and skylights or by chopping holes in roofs and floors; removes persons from danger; performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers sweeping water and removing debris; responds to a variety of calls of an emergency nature requiring the performance of light and heavy duty rescue activities operating various equipment used in rescue operations; participates in fire drills and attends regular classes in Firefighting/EMS skills and related activities provides pre-hospital medical care fire prevention equipment maintenance and related subjects; studies assigned materials; inspects assigned district to assure thorough knowledge of all streets alleys and buildings; participates in fire prevention inspection of residential and business buildings and contents; inspects and makes minor repairs to fire hydrants; performs general maintenance and cleaning work in the upkeep of departmental apparatus equipment furnishings and structures; cleans and washes walls and floors; washes and dries hose; washes cleans and polishes apparatus. Acts as Fire/Driver Operator in the absence of the regularly assigned Fire/Driver Operator.

May be subject to bodily injury in the line of duty. Works 24 hours on duty 48 hours off.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
Knowledge: Knowledge of firefighting practices. Knowledge of common firefighting equipment hoses. Thorough individual understanding of firefighting fire prevention and rescue methods and techniques.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to learn a variety of firefighting duties methods and techniques; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions quickly; ability to respond quickly to changing situations under emergency pressures; ability to climb ladders and work at considerable heights and to lean the use of tools and equipment used in fighting fires; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; ability to perform limited mechanical work involved in maintaining firefighting and rescue apparatus equipment and tools; ability to meet such specific physical requirements as may be established by competent authority.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently walks climbs stands stoops crawls pulls pushes kneels twists body sits squats; infrequently carries 50-150 lbs. lifts 40-60 lbs. holds 80-100 lbs. drags 100-180 lbs. Must pass a strength and agility test and physical examination.
Education/Experience: Must be able to obtain and maintain EMS Level Clinical Authorization to practice from the EMS Medical Director. Certified by State of Texas as a Firefighter. Certified by Texas Department of Health as an EMT Basic.
Preferred Qualifications:
Texas Commission on Fire Protection certifications:- Structure Firefighter Intermediate or above Driver/Operator Fire Service Instructor Fire Inspector Fire (Cause & Origin) Investigator Arson Investigator Hazardous Materials Technician Fire Officer I Fire Officer II Marine Firefighter Aircraft Rescue Firefighter.
Texas State Department of Health Services certifications:
- Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate or above
Completion of accredited college hours in any area according to the following increments:
- 30 semester hours 60 semester hours Associates Degree Bachelors Degree Masters Degree; military Service with Honorable Discharge.

Written Exam Description:
The exam is multiple choice and covers reading comprehension grammar syntax punctuation spelling vocabulary arithmetic and differential decision making. Time Limit: Three (3) hours. You must score at least a score of 70 on the multiple-choice portion of the exam in order to move forward to the physical portion of the testing.
Physical Ability Test Description:
Must pass a strength and agility test and physical examination (see below for requirements). Must possess a valid Class C Texas drivers license. Many may be subject to bodily injury in the line of duty.
Physical Fitness Assessment:
- Perform 1 Minute Sit-Up Test Minimum 26 sit-ups
- Recover 5 minutes
- Perform 300 Meter Run Time Limit 81 seconds
- Recover 5 minutes
- Perform 1 Minute Push-Up Test Minimum 20 push-ups
- Recover 5 Minutes
- Perform 1.5 Mile Run Test Time Limit 16:39
- Aerial Ladder Climb 100 at a 75-degree angle
