Description: An agricultural diagnostics laboratory is looking for a Laboratory Technician with strong molecular biology expertise to join their team. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced molecular diagnostic technologies in a growing agricultural diagnostic company a collaborative team environment with opportunities for professional growth and exposure to both technical and client-facing aspects of plant diagnostics. The duties will include but are not limited to performing plant DNA/RNA extractions and qPCR assays according to established SOPs; ensuring accurate setup execution and interpretation of molecular assays; processing client samples maintaining proper sample traceability and managing chain-of-custody records; contributing to laboratory operations including consumables inventory reagent ordering and stock control; preparing and dispatching sample collection kits to clients; providing client-facing technical support when required; generating reviewing and delivering technical reports with a high level of accuracy and clarity; assisting in maintaining the laboratorys quality management system including record keeping compliance documentation and incident logging; supporting data management and ensuring proper storage backup and traceability of results; collaborating with colleagues to maintain a safe efficient and professional laboratory environment; and operating and maintaining laboratory instruments.
Key Requirements: BSc degree in Molecular Biology Biotechnology Plant Biotechnology or a related field while an MSc in Molecular Biology Plant Pathology or related field would be preferred. A minimum 5 years work experience in a qPCR-based diagnostic or molecular testing laboratory; practical knowledge of DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR workflows; familiarity with plant pathogen diagnostics and molecular assay troubleshooting; experience in laboratory operations consumables management and data reporting; and experience with automated liquid handling platforms (Hamilton or similar).
Additional Requirements: Excellent attention to detail record-keeping and organisational skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients. Computer literacy and proficiency in data handling. Team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced diagnostic laboratory environment.
