Job Summary
- Plan develop and implement all phases of pre-hospital training including medical first responders and paramedics. Coordinate pre-hospital communication through a single conduit for EMS agencies looking to interface with Corewell Health.
- Partner with nursing in the emergency department as well as inpatient nursing and nursing education to improve interprofessional relationships between front-line team members and EMS personnel to ensure the highest degree of quality and safety for our patients.
- Collaborate with the stroke program at Corewell Health and other EMS liaisons across the State of Michigan to determine and implement a large vessel occlusion (stroke) screening tool for use in conjunction with bypass protocols and with county EMS agencies to advocate for additional support for transport needs.
- Coordinate requests for and provide on-going medical education as well as Corewell Health specific education (eg. new policies which ED is the most appropriate based on patient diagnosis / demographics advances in research affecting patient triage and intervention etc.) and QI feedback that is currently occurring via multiple different departments. i.e. trauma stroke cardiovascular and pediatrics.
- Partner with other regional medical control authorities (MCAs) to develop best practices for inter-facility transfers; participate in the West Michigan MCA collaborative. Participate in the State of Michigan initiative to develop organized trauma stroke and STEMI conjunction with the Corewell Health trauma stroke and STEMI programs represent the Corewell Health system in the efforts to determine bypass protocols and other standards of practice reflective of the unique West Michigan geographical landscape.
- Collaborates across multiple regions and hospitals within a region. Cross collaboration amongst regions is critical to alignment of processes and workflows. This role also collaborations with many disciplines within the organization as many departments including but not limited to emergency inpatient and many outpatient areas. Also provide direct observation and coaching during handoffs and EMS drug bag program.
- Reviews and submits billing for transportation providers to ensure the hospital is appropriately paying for transportation services.
- Collaborates with senior leaders on reviewing changes and providing input on new software products improving workflows related to transportation EMS run sheets and other process involving pre hospital providers to hospital. Also reviews partners new transportation contracts throughout the enterprise.
- Required Bachelors Degree or equivalent in nursing or related field; or graduate of approved paramedic program
- 3 years of relevant experience as a paramedic Required
- Emergency Department Nursing experience Preferred
- Paramedic License -State of Michigan Upon Hire required
