NYPA is excited to announce an opportunity for a full-timeenergy industry professionalto join ourGeneration Resource Management (GRM) Cohort within the Energy Resource Management (ERM) Department. This position offers a unique professional development experience designed for early-career professionals with a minimum of two years of relevant experience or successfully completed energy/utility educational programs who are seeking to build advanced expertise in energy trading fuel management and power/gas market analytics.
The GRM Cohort includes a structured one-year skill development plan that provides comprehensive exposure to NYPAs GRM functions. Participants will complete four targeted learning modulesEnergy Trading Analytics Fuel Analytics Fuel Supply and Real-Time Tradingeach designed to build technical proficiency analytical capability and operational understanding through a combination of job shadowing practical exercises and formal training courses.
- Module 1: Energy Trading Analytics: Learn about NYISO/NYPA reporting requirements energy/capacity transaction submissions Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and TCC auctions Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and generation bidding strategies.
- Module 2: Fuel Analytics:Develop skills in data analysis predictive modeling and performance measurement to optimize fuel usage and cost management. Become proficient in several software platforms including Commodity/Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) DTN and S&P Platts.
- Module 3: Fuel Supply:Gain insight into fuel procurement strategies market fundamentals logistics and risk management techniques to optimize NYPAs fuel supply portfolio.
- Module 4: Real-Time Trading:Learn NYISO real-time market operations generation bidding procedures and compliance requirements while also gaining exposure to several software platforms including but not limited to NYISO MIS NYISO OMS PowerOptix ERM Energy Trading Portal Yes Energy and Enverus.
The cohort includes cross-departmental training opportunities site visits and professional development sessions to foster a comprehensive understanding of NYPAs mission and operations. This is a permanent full-time position not an internship. Upon successful completion of the GRM Cohort participants will have the opportunity to be placed in area of immediate need or where GRM management feels support is required in an area such as power trading analytics or fuel supply. Graduates of the cohort will be well-prepared to engage in the power and natural gas markets which includes the capability to manage generator assets using NYISO software platforms covering fuel source energy ancillary services and capacity. #LI-LD1
Responsibilities
- Execute daily functions required by NYISO as an LSE Power Supplier Transmission Customer & Market Participant
- Develop monitor adjust bids/schedules and forecasts to ensure adherence to strategy fuel management constraints contractual obligations & appropriate governance
- Review and analyze market conditions to develop & submit bids for all NYPA assets/portfolios on hourly/daily/forward basis
- Manage NYPA trading tools as appropriate to reduce NYPA exposure to market volatility
- Stay current with NYISO procedures market issues and reports.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Familiar with Wholesale Electricity Market Fuel Markets and/or associated Financial products.
- Basic business statistical financial analytical and reasoning skills
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Able to adapt multitask and work under pressure
Education Experience and Certifications
- Bachelors degree or required
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in an analytical role or equivalent combinations of education & experience.
- Utility or Energy Company experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Real Time Traders ability to work a 24/7 12-hour rotation holidays and weekends.
