Critical Facilities Engineer(Level 1):

The Critical Facilities Engineer I - CFEI: provides comprehensive data center white space support for IT infrastructure which may include monitoring troubleshooting reporting and day-to-day maintenance all of this being site-dependent and as per the service level agreements with our clients. Critical Facilities Engineers are also responsible for site rounds and using event monitoring and management systems to provide notifications and escalations to stakeholders during service outages.


Responsibilities:

  • Operate monitor maintain and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance work assignments requiring the skill and direction of several engineering mechanical and maintenance trades.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of building systems i.e. HVAC electrical distribution maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions.
  • Rapid response investigation and management of indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints
  • Have a complete working knowledge of creating closing and tracking work requests (WR). Initiate or respond to work orders follow-up and verify completion of work.
  • Monitor performance/note deficiencies of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Supports the delivery of data center services including colocation telecommunications services and deployment of additional services to customers and internal business systems.
  • Acts as an operational contact for data center customers vendors and carriers as it relates to colocation connectivity and network products and services.
  • Carries out tasks under the direction of the Network/Engineering Infrastructure Manager and IT Manager necessary to support internal networks IT infrastructure computers electronics and telephone systems.
  • Conducts activities inside IT and telecommunications rooms or cabinets such as the installation of IT and network hardware making or running patch cables and verifying or testing cable paths.
  • Coordinates and oversees access to and work within the facility with third-party contractors vendors and carriers related to structured cabling installation circuit delivery and equipment installations in IT and telecommunications rooms and customer space.
  • Supports offsite points-of-presence at remote locations and aids in operations administration and maintenance of infrastructure network equipment and tasks related to the delivery and support of network services.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 0-2 years of directly related experience in the operation installation and maintenance of data center critical equipment building systems with in-depth technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC electrical plumbing fire/life safety and control systems.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years experience in electrical systems refrigeration and/or HVAC. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment including Feeders Transformers Generators Switchgear UPS systems ATS/STS units PDU/PMM units Chillers Air handling units and CRAC units.
  • Good observation skills and problem-solving ability.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
  • Ability to bend stoop kneel and reach for equipment related tasks
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
  • Clear vision with or without correction to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
  • Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs labels and cables
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme temperatures rain or snow
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
  • Possession of a valid drivers license for work-related travel as required
