About the Role

An opportunity currently exists for an experienced Physiotherapist to join the Physiotherapy Weekend team. You will be involved in assessing and treating Emergency Department secondary contact patients as well as orthopaedic and plastics inpatients (as demand allows) on the weekends and public holidays.

This position is a 4 - 6 hour shift on weekends/public holidays. It is an expectation that staff work a shift every 6 weeks.

Duties include

  • Provide appropriate clinical management for Emergency Department secondary contact patients as well orthopaedic and plastics patients.
  • Assessment planning and treatment including education for Emergency Department secondary contact patients orthopaedic and plastics inpatients.
  • Communicate assessment and treatment outcomes to nursing medical and other Allied Health staff via documentation and handovers.
  • Advising on the care of orthopaedic inpatients in outlying wards when requested.

Your Contribution

  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Current AHPRA Registration
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications (completed or working towards completion)
  • Extensive experience in managing a wide range of physiotherapy conditions in particular soft tissue injuries spinal and peripheral joint injuries.
  • High level of clinical reasoning and clinical knowledge

Position Description

LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
This casual position is located at the Fitzroy Campus of St Vincents Hospital Melbourne particularly on theNeurosciences inpatient wards; and cares for a diverse range of patients who are admitted under theOrthopaedic Plastics Rheumatology Secondary contact Emergency Department and other units as
directed/delegated.


POSITION PURPOSE
Accountable to the Physiotherapy Manager and responsible to the designated Team Leader this Grade 2 position is responsible for providing high quality overall physiotherapy management to the patients onunits managed by the designated work role also entails supervision of other weekend Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Assistants andtaking a leadership role as required.

5. POSITION DUTIES
The delivery of the highest standard of physiotherapy services to the patients at St. Vincents Health asdirected incorporating the mission and values of the Sisters of Charity:

  • Provide appropriate clinical management for all patients on units managed by the designatedwork area as required.
  • Assessment planning and treatment including education for all patients.
  • Communicate assessment and treatment outcomes to nursing medical and other Allied Healthstaff via documentation and ward rounds.
  • Provide a tertiary level of consultancy in outlying wards when requested.
  • Ensure appropriate coverage of physiotherapy weekend services across Fitzroy campus.
  • Participate in performance management as required.
  • Provide supervision for other weekend physiotherapy staff and Allied Health Assistants asrequired.
  • Communicate accurate handover information for ongoing physiotherapy management for allpatients.
  • Ensure continuous Quality Improvement through high quality work practices.
  • Participate in department quality improvement activities that involve the weekend service.
  • Active participation in professional on going education and review of current literature.

8. SELECTION CRITERIA
8.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education:

  • Physiotherapy Degree
  • Short postgraduate courses in relevant areas of physiotherapy
  • Postgraduate qualification/s in relevant area/s of physiotherapy (desirable)
  • Membership of the APA and special interest group in relevant area (desirable)
  • AHPRA Registration

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Recent experience in and knowledge of physiotherapy management in an acute health caresetting particularly musculoskeletal & Emergency Department
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to staff development and continuing education
  • Knowledge of current healthcare trends
  • Understanding of Quality Improvement and evidence of implementation and evaluation of Quality
  • Improvement activities
