Status:through the remainder of the 2025/26 school year (approximately 120 work days)

Location:Long Lake Elementary School

General Summary:

The Teacher Instructional Assistant At Risk reports to the principal or classroom teacher/s and assists in maintaining appropriate classroom activities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  2. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.
  3. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  4. Guides independent study enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  5. Assists students in computer labs.
  6. Assists with such large group activities as drill work reading aloud and story telling.
  7. Reads to students listens to students read and participates in other forms of verbal communication with students.
  8. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  9. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  10. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and parents.
  11. Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Minimum education requirement is an Associates degree or 60 credit hours of post-secondary institution education credits.
  2. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
  3. Previous experience working with children.
  4. Ability to care for supervise and nurture children.
  5. Ability to follow directions.
  6. Ability to work independently.
  7. Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.
  8. Excellent organizational skills.
  9. Ability to resolve conflict.
  10. Dependable reliable and protective of sensitive/confidential information.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property including bending pushing/pulling lifting twisting climbing stooping or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students.
  4. The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  5. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  6. Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
  7. Ability to work effectively and efficiently.

Environmental Conditions:

Incumbents work in indoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students school equipment and office equipment.

Work Schedules:

Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the districts school year calendar.

Background Checks:

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
