Position Summary
Youthdale Treatment Centres is a fully accredited Childrens Mental Health organization with a mission to provide children adolescents and their care-givers access to the best available psychiatric care and support restoring hope and helping individuals reach their full potential.
Youthdale is looking to fill the position of a Part-Time Awake Overnight Child & Youth Counsellor to join the 592 Huron Live-In Treatment Program. The Awake Overnight Staff provides supervision to youth that reside in Live in treatment programs. Awake Overnight Staff must provide adequate coverage for the house during overnights and be fully responsible for ensuring the clients emotional and physical safety and must stay on shift if the need arises.
Location: 592 Huron Street
Hours: 20 hours per week
Status: Part-Time Permanent
Union/Non: This is a unionized position
Rate of pay: $27.39 per hour
We are hiring for a replacement position.
Accountability
This position reports directly to the Live-In Treatment Manager at 592 Huron.
Corporate Responsibilities
- Fosters positive interpersonal relationships with the staff clients visitors outside agencies government officials and related professional associations.
- Maintains and adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintains and adheres to all relevant legislation.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Works safely in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Agency Health and Safety Manual.
- Demonstrates clinical practices which are consistent with the mission vision and philosophy of Youthdale Treatment Centres.
*As a condition of employment successful candidate will have to abide by the Agencys Vaccination and IPAC policy.*
Job Responsibilities
- Remain awake throughout the night to ensure a supportive safe and predictable environment;
- Follow and implement the prescribed individual treatment plans and facilitate social and life skills training for the clients in relation to morning routines;
- Ensure ongoing communication of pertinent events to other staff and managers through the shift change process and communication book;
- Carry out all safety requirements and emergency procedures; including a thorough safety check of the premises at the start of each shift and regularly throughout the night to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the clients and the security of the house and property;
- Provide support to residents modeling a positive attitude utilizing affirmation and encouragement.
- Ensures that records are maintained as per agency standards and in accordance with privacy policies and legislation.
- Completes Inspection Sheets every 30 minutes after each room inspection; room inspections involve opening the door and using a mini flashlight to confirm the client is physically in their bed.
- Makes notes if the child is awake restless or leaves their room for any reason etc.
- Answers the phone and take messages.
- Participates in ongoing training and supervision sessions on a regular basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Child and Youth Work Social Work or equivalent.
- Sensitivity and ability to work with a diverse client and staff group.
- Ability to exercise professionalism and sound judgement in conflictual and stressful situations.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills.
- Valid First Aid/CPR SMG or UMAB certification.
- Able to provide Youthdale with a clean vulnerable sector screening.
- Able to provide Youthdale with a medical assessment indicating immunizations are up to date tuberculosis is negative and they are free of communicable disease.
