Modern Laws Legal Clinic provides accessible limited-scope family law services to clients who may not be able to afford the full representation of an attorney.
As a Law Student Intern within the Clinic you will gain hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced attorneys while contributing meaningfully to the Clinics mission of delivering client-centered high-quality family law assistance. This is an in-person internship
The role offers you exposure to real-world family law practice client interaction document drafting and professional mentorship in a culture rooted in creativity optimism bravery and empathy.

- Assist in the onboarding of clinic clients: gathering facts reviewing documents and supporting attorney consultations.
- Draft and prepare family law-related documents under supervision (e.g. petitions responses status statements RMC statements) as part of the Clinics document-prep services.
- Conduct legal research on family law issues statutes rules of procedure and relevant case law to support Clinic attorneys.
- Participate in virtual or in-person limited scope representation activities (e.g. assisting with hearings motion calendar appearances) as appropriate under student-certified practice rules.
- Attend internal team meetings mentorship sessions and CLE-style trainings to enhance legal and professional skills.
- Maintain accurate case files track deadlines assist with calendaring and ensure compliance with Clinic processes and confidentiality standards.
- Reflect on learning experiences receive feedback from supervising attorneys and integrate lessons into your development as a future licensed lawyer.
- Currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school (2L or 3L preferred) and in good academic standing.
- Strong research writing and analytical skills; attention to detail is essential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with clients team members and supervising attorneys.
- Interest in family law (divorce custody protection orders) and/or access-to-justice work.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced innovative legal environment.
