Job Summary

Your mission

We are seeking a skilled Microsoft and Office IT Administrator to provide hands-on technical support and systems administration across War Childs globalIT environment. Based in our London office (hybrid) you will be responsible for the full administration maintenance and optimisation of all local IT equipment including laptops printers Wi-Fi network infrastructure internet access and meeting-room technology. As the IT focal point for all War Child London-based colleagues and external UK IT suppliers you will ensure smooth daily operations and a secure reliable IT setup.


Alongside local responsibilities you will support the improvement and management of War Childs global Microsoft technology environment - including Entra ID SharePoint Intune Azure Teams and OneDrive - working closely with IT colleagues to strengthen and secure our Microsoft 365 ecosystem.


This role sits within the IT Team in the Finance IT and Risk Management Department reporting to the Global Head of IT with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the War Child UK Director of Finance and IT. You will also collaborate closely with your counterpart in the Netherlands who supports our Amsterdam office.


What you will do:
  • Provide office support
    • Deliver 1st and 2nd line support for all IT-related questions incidents and requests from London office users regarding hardware software peripherals and infrastructure.
    • Log and prioritise user issues requests and queries; resolve them independently or escalate to third parties as needed.
    • Provide guidance and instruction to users on the effective use of standard software and organisation-specific applications.

  • Administer Microsoft technologies
    • Serve as the primary administrator for designated Microsoft technologies ensuring effective maintenance optimisation process improvement and documentation.
    • Act as secondary support for Microsoft technologies managed by other IT team members.
    • Deliver 1st and 2nd line support to global users for all issues and requests related to assigned Microsoft technologies.
    • Log prioritise and resolve user incidents and service requests escalating when appropriate.
    • Provide training and user support on the proper use of Microsoft tools and organisation-specific systems.

  • Provide Advice and Information
    • Identify and address structural issues in IT infrastructure proposing and implementing improvements independently with the IT Team or in collaboration with external suppliers.
    • Assess and report user needs for information systems and digital tools.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with IT procedures including those for security authorisation and acceptable use.
    • Contribute to defining and maintaining minimum IT and security standards ensuring these are clearly communicated to IT staff.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance IT processes and workflows and participate in implementing improvements.
    • Initiate and collaborate on IC improvement projects with IT colleagues and external vendors.
    • Contribute to creating and maintaining a culture of safeguarding for children and adults in line with War Child Alliances Child Safeguarding policies.

  • Manage and Optimise
    • Provide technical and operational support to ensure the stability and performance of global IT systems.
    • Monitor system performance continuity and adherence to IT security standards.
    • Manage user accounts and access for global War Child staff.
    • Support the procurement and lifecycle management of IT hardware software and services.
    • Monitor and respond to security alerts and incidents ensuring timely resolution and documentation.

  • Provide Holiday Cover
    • Provide cover for the equivalent IT role based in the Netherlands supporting the Amsterdam office during periods of absence or leave.
Your profile
  • Education: Higher professional (Batchelors level) working and thinking level preferably with a degree in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in IT support and systems administration including work with Microsoft products (Azure Office365 or Microsoft365) in an international context.
  • Microsoft Expertise: Proven expertise in administering maintaining and optimising Microsoft Azure Office 365 and related Microsoft cloud technologies.
  • IT infrastructure :Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components including networks servers endpoints storage and security systems.
  • Knowledge of ITservice managementprinciples and processes (e.g. ITIL) with hands-on experience providing remote and on-site technical support.
  • Security:Good knowledge of IT security standards and practices including user access management data protection and threat mitigation
  • Risk Awareness:Ability to proactively identify risks anticipate technology challenges and implement effective preventive measures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with creativity and initiative in finding practical solutions.
  • Service-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering timely high-quality support to end users.
  • Effective communication skills able to convey technical information clearly and confidently to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity with the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

What we offer
  • Location: UK. Preference is given to applicants who reside and have valid working permits. War Child does not offer relocation or visa sponsorship.
  • Contract Duration:Fixed Term with 6 months probation period.

        • Salary range31600 - 38200 per annum
