This position is for an Academic Advisor II for the Mechanical Engineering department in the College of Engineering. This position advises students concerning their academic plans and progress academic schedule choice of major and other academic activities and career goals to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation. This position requires the knowledge and ability to coordinate and run retention support programs for students. This position supports the upper-level students within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.



Responsibilities
  • Advises graduate and undergraduate students in the Mechanical Engineering department of College of Engineering. Makes recommendations regarding issues such as course selection and hours taken per term based on students professional goals interests and previous academic performance. Interprets and formulates SUS/USF/and College policies and procedures as related to student advising and students participation in university life.
  • Works collaboratively with the college academic advising staff academic departments across campus and the other colleges at USF to advance the enrollment and productivity goals of the college and university. Advice students individually and/or with groups regarding academic core and/or departmental requirements appropriate class selection academic policies and procedures and campus resources.
  • Assist students with identification of long term goals and career plans. Work to position students to meet requirements for graduation within appropriate periods of time while preparing them to meet future goals.
  • Advise special populations of students within scope of responsibility such as new or transfer students undeclared majors etc. assisting in exploration of academic programs and focusing on academic direction procedures policies and available resources.
  • Maintain advising records and confidential student evaluation records.
  • Utilize USF information systems to support delivery of advising services.
  • Serve on appropriate department college and/or campus advisory committees.
  • Perform related duties as required or deemed necessary to meet the Academic Advising goals within the advisors scope of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelors Degree in Education Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisors specific responsibilities with two years of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelors degree requirement for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants must have two years of academic advising experience in a university setting (at a 2-year or 4-year degree-granting institution). Additionally they should possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite as well as knowledge of USF policies and procedures Banner/OASIS and Canvas.

This position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check.

(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure certification or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
