The Department of Residential Life Housing and Food Services is committed to providing students withresources and experiences that will complement their academics. The department is committed toproviding services for our residents that far exceed mere room and board. The Graduate Assistant forResidential Education position is an integral part of the department team.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Assistant Director of Residential Education the GraduateAssistant for Residential Education will support Ponderosa Village operations in areas including but notlimited to residential programming student staff supervision and property oversight.

Responsibilities

• Supervise or assist with supervision of 4 paraprofessionals

• Assist with the recruitment selection and training of student staff

• Promote restorative justice through educational conversations

• Coordinate and facilitate community programming

• Lead media campaigns including posters adverts social media presence and more

• Facilitate community outreach initiatives

• Coordinate and facilitate the residential curriculum in collaboration with the GraduateSchool

• Organize and complete Room Condition Reports for Ponderosa Village

• Lead communication regarding Ponderosa Village Renewal Campaigns

• Assist in new-lease recruitment process

• Assist in the completion of move-in and move-out operations

• Collaborate with business partners such as the Facilities Manager and the Coordinator ofDesk Operations

• Assist with or coordinate desk operations

• Assist with or coordinate housing operations

• Other duties as assigned including various administrative tasks

Required Qualifications:

• To be eligible for an assistantship students must be admitted to an aid eligible degree-granting programat the University of Nevada Reno and be in good academic standing. Self-Supported Programs such as Extended Studies certificates or online programs do not qualify for aid.

• Successful candidates must maintain an overall graduate studies GPA of at least 3.00 and must becontinuously enrolled in at least 6 graduate level credits throughout the duration of the assistantship.

• This assistantship requires candidates to work an average of 20 hours per week. The Graduate Assistantfor Residential Education may be required to work during non-business hours such as nights weekendsand some holiday to complete relevant programming events and activities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Training education supervision leadership experience OR experience in two of the following areas:

• Community event planning

• Assessment

• Student development theory

• Residential community management

• Crisis management

• General business/administrative functions

Remuneration:
This 11-month renewable position (with potential option to work summers with a separate agreement asneeded) includes the following:

• A stipend dependent on degree track and program

• A board plan of 50 meal swipes per semester (50 swipes for Fall; 50 swipes for Spring) whileclasses are in session

• Medical insurance coverage

• In-state tuition paid for up to 10 credits per semester (10 Credits for Fall 10 Credits for Spring).

• Out-of-state students will receive a waiver of the difference between out-of-statetuition and in-state tuition for up to four semesters for Masters degree-seeking studentsand six semesters for Doctoral degree-seeking students

• The student is financially responsible for all student fees relevant to their status as aGraduate Student.

• Summer tuition may also be available

• Professional development funds for conference attendance may also be available.

Special Qualifications Required:

• Excellent written and verbal skills

• Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word

• Interpersonal skills

• Ability to multi-task

• Ability to work in a team environment and independently as needed.

• Ability to travel or if expected to drive a state vehicle must have Nevada State Drivers Licenseor ability to obtain one within required time period

• Carry out physical activity requirements commensurate with duties of the position i.e. walk upmultiple flights of stairs in case of emergency lift 25 pounds etc.
