Founded in 1953 Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. Qualifications for Employment

Education Minimum Requirements: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in academic counseling/advising in the field of education or a related field.

Masters Degree from an accredited college or university and experience preferred.

Pertinent Other: Previous experience and/or desire to engage in non-traditional advisement delivery systems (including on-line advisement) preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties

The Advising Specialist reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Advisement and Retention or his/or her designee and performs the following duties:

Provides academic advisement to students in all departments as needed including but not limited to via phone e-mail web/video-conferencing and in-person.

Acquaints students with general educational requirements College regulations services and
opportunities.

Assists students as they make decisions related to career program/major and selection of courses.

Counsels students regarding the consequences of course withdrawal insufficient progress change of major withdrawal from institution.

Assists students in evaluation or re-evaluation of progress toward established goals and educational plans.

Refers students to other institutional resources and services as appropriate.

Assists with the advisor training program and development of advising resources.

Participates in and provides administrative support for other programs and projects designed to promote student retention.

Evaluates Transfer credit in coordination with appropriate Department Chairperson.

Maintains records and generates reports relevant to the operation and evaluation of programs/projects.

Performs other related duties as assigned and provides additional services that supplement the advising program as needed. Some Evening and Weekend Hours required.

This is a 12-month position with a salary of $44000 with a Bachelors degree and two (2) years of experience in academic counseling/advising in the field of education or a related field or $47000 with a Masters degree.
