Introduction
Immersion Lithography uses a thin layer of water between the optical columns last lens element and the silicon wafer. This increases the local refractive index resulting in improved resolution. The component that maintains this water layer is the Immersion Hood which relies on controlled gas and liquid flows managed by various valves and flow controllers. To achieve better flow control a modulating valve can be implemented.
Your Assignment
As an intern you will contribute to the design of the modulating valve and analyze its failure modes using Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) simulations. Your main tasks will include:
Building a 2D CFD model of the valve;
Creating a 2D FEM model of the valve;
Developing a 2D FSI model (combining CFD and FEM).
This is a Master internship with a duration of 3-4 months working 5 days per week. This period covers research implementation and a final report with findings. This assignment is not suitable for a thesis. The expected start date is February 2026.
Your Profile
To be a match for this internship you are:
A Masters student in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or Applied Physics;
Have fundamental background in fluid and structural mechanics;
Preferably have knowledge of CFD and FEM software (e.g. COMSOL);
Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institutefor the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e. Nuffic agreement).
