Dean School of Exercise and Sport Science
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor welcomes inquiries nominations and applications for Dean of its School of Exercise and Sport Science available on June 1 2026.
The Dean provides leadership to 13 full time faculty and staff. The School of Exercise and Sport Science is comprised of undergraduate and graduate addition it contains a Human Performance Lab conducting internal and external research studies. The School of Exercise and Sport Science Strength and Conditioning Education Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education since 2022.
The School of Exercise and Sport Science offers four degrees each having additional specialization targeted toward their desired career path. Students may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Health Science (B.S.H.S.) degree in early Childhood-12th Grade Physical Education specializing in Coaching or Teaching a B.S.H.S. degree in Exercise Physiology and a Bachelor of Sport Management (B.S.M.). Finally a B.S. in Health Science with seven pre-health profession pathways provides tremendous opportunities for students. The vast professional opportunities through these four degrees point to why student continue to be drawn to the School of Exercise & Sport Science and is why it has the largest number of undergraduate majors at the university. The Dean will have the opportunity to impact the school through academic leadership curriculum development and other program advancement; faculty research; accreditation; budget and resource development; assessment and evaluation; continuous quality improvement; and the recruitment and retention of faculty staff and students.
UMHB deans teach up to two courses per year serve under a 12-month faculty contract and appointment letter and this dean will report to the Executive Dean for the Mayborn College of Health Sciences.
The successful candidate should be a:
Communicative leader who can build relationships within the College and the University;
Collaborative leader who can participate in policymaking and direction for the University;
Strategic leader willing to promote innovative ideas and diverse modes of course delivery as the College grows in numbers of students and programs;
Visionary leader who can further the Colleges goals and objectives identify emerging academic issues and recommend appropriate program responses;
Christian leader who can apply their personal commitment to Christ to further the Christian mission of the College and the University.
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:
Terminal degree from an accredited institution in an academic discipline within the college;
Experience and scholarly attainment that qualifies the candidate to teach at the college level in education;
Substantial administrative experience; A portion of the administrative experience in a higher education environment is preferred;
Proven track record of building relationships with all constituents; and
Demonstrated ability to think systemically administer collegially and advocate effectively for the University the College and its faculty and students.
