Job Title: Building Engineer
Location: Detroit MI
Required: 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License City of Detroit
Pay: $30.00-35.00 per hour
Job Summary
The Building Engineer is responsible for the safe reliable and efficient operation of all building systems. This role supports building operations through hands-on maintenance troubleshooting preventive maintenance and coordination with contractors while ensuring occupant comfort safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Operate maintain and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC electrical plumbing mechanical and life safety systems
Respond to work orders service requests and building emergencies
Perform and assist with preventive and corrective maintenance programs
Maintain accurate records for maintenance inspections and compliance
Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors for repairs and installations
Support utility monitoring energy efficiency initiatives and cost control
Assist with tenant improvements inspections and construction coordination
Maintain a clean safe and organized work environment
Follow all safety procedures codes and regulations
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required: 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License City of Detroit
Minimum 5 years of experience operating and maintaining commercial building systems
Strong knowledge of mechanical electrical plumbing and building automation systems
Ability to read blueprints schematics and technical manuals
Proficient with hand and power tools meters and testing equipment
Experience with CMMS systems and basic computer applications preferred
Skills & Abilities
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication
Ability to prioritize tasks and perform well in fast-paced or emergency situations
Basic math and energy usage understanding
Professional dependable and safety-focused work ethic
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to stand walk climb ladders work in confined spaces and at heights
Lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs with assistance
Work near mechanical equipment loud environments and varying weather conditions
Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
