Shift: This a part time position not to exceed 28 hours per week. The typical hours for this role are Thursday - Saturday from 9am - 3pm.
General Purpose:
The person hired to this position will:
- Cordially and professionally greet and communicate with patrons of the library in person by telephone or by other means.
- Assist patrons in fulfilling their information needs.
- Be assigned to the circulation/reference desk (daily) assist and instruct patrons in general computer use (daily) shelve (daily) and complete emergent custodial duties (as the need arises).
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
- Receive operational assignments that may include childrens services technical services general computer lab instruction and oversight and other operations necessary to running the library.
- Complete in-house duties that will be assigned as needed to expedite the delivery of library services.
Reporting Relationships:
This position reports to the Library Director and has no supervisory authority.
Example of Duties:
- Meets and greets patrons.
- Attends to the various public service stations of the library.
- Assists patrons with needs such as locating materials and information through print or electronic means (or by means that are emerging or might emerge).
- Assists patrons in establishing accounts at the library.
- Assists patrons with electronic access.
- Keeps materials in an orderly manner shelves materials keeps library appearance in an orderly manner.
- Operates various library equipment.
- Telephones patrons for library purposes.
- Collects money for library purposes.
- Performs other duties as required.
Special Considerations:
The position may require regular evening and weekend work schedules. The position will not be regularly scheduled to work more than twenty-eight (28) hours per week. The position will be assigned back of house work as necessary for the smooth operation of the library.
This position carries no benefits such as accrual of sick leave annual leave or retirement. This position will not generally be considered for attendance at professional training sessions conferences or conventions.
Qualifications:
Mandatory skills: Demonstrated positive customer service skills. Demonstrated skills in Internet and computer literacy. Demonstrated ability and willingness to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently and as a productive member of a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and patrons. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Desired skills: Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System and information retrieval methods. Preference may be given to those possessing foreign language skills - particularly Spanish.
Experience and Education:
Minimum qualifications: High school diploma; related experience helpful; any combination of education and/or experience that would likely provide the required knowledge to perform the duties of the position.
Physical Standards:
Ability to lift forty (40) pounds reach over ones head with weights of up to fifteen (15) pounds stand for extended periods of time walking common dexterity.
