Senior Nursery Officer Early Years Leadership (40 hrs/week pa)

Role Overview

Our client is looking to appoint two Senior Nursery Officers to join their warm nurturing nursery team. Reporting to the Nursery Manager (and ultimately to the Business Services Manager) the Senior Nursery Officer will help run the nursery smoothly delivering high-quality care and early years education across all roomsbaby toddler and preschool. This is a senior hands-on role: in the Managers absence the Senior Nursery Officer will step in to lead support staff and make operational decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day management and act as their deputy when required.

  • Lead implementation of the updated EYFS (from September 2025) embedding the Characteristics of Effective Learning (COEL) in daily practice.

  • Promote inclusive practice ensuring children with SEND are supported with differentiated planning and provision.

  • Maintain a safe stimulating and welcoming environment for all children.

  • Organise and manage nursery fees and early years funding applications.

  • Complete review and act on risk assessments regularly.

  • Oversee staff rotas shifts and cover.

  • Use the Famly App for child tracking parent communication and operational tasks.

  • Mentor and guide nursery staff to maintain high standards of care.

  • Build positive relationships with children parents carers and colleagues.

  • Work collaboratively with external professionals to support child development and welfare.

  • Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations and internal nursery policies.

  • Contribute to observation assessment and planning particularly for key children.

  • Spend quality one-to-one time with key children keeping accurate records of their progress.

  • Follow safeguarding and welfare procedures escalating concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

  • Oversee administration of medication incidents accidents and related documentation appropriately.

  • Promote equal opportunities and challenge discrimination reporting any incidents.

  • Support nursery events open days and outings.

  • Assist with maintenance of play spaces cleaning laundry and mealtime supervision (including preparation of baby bottles where necessary).

  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the nurserys training culture.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Childcare Early Years or equivalent (essential).

  • Paediatric First Aid certification.

  • Proven experience in an early years setting preferably in a senior or supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework COEL and Ofsted standards.

  • Experience of working with children with SEND and applying inclusive practice.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Ability to manage administrative duties such as funding fees rotas and risk assessments.

  • Competency in using digital tools especially the Famly App (or similar).

  • Unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Willingness to undertake ongoing CPD and maintain a Professional Development Plan (PDP).
