Reporting to the Facilities Manager the Custodian is a key member of The Mustard Seeds Facilities team and is responsible for maintaining a clean safe and welcoming environment for guests staff and community members. These positions are part of the City of Edmontons Winter Warming Initiative and support operations at two Community Impact Centres (CICs): Strathcona CIC and Canora CIC.

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time/Part-Time (Contracts to March 31 2026)
Schedule 1: Strathcona CIC- Monday to Friday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00p.m.
Schedule 2: Canora CIC Shift 1:Monday to Friday 24 to 32 hours per week 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Schedule 3: Canora CIC Shift 2: Saturday to Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean assigned facilities
- Collecting and disposing of refuse found in and around premises
- Disinfect and sanitize washrooms (floor toilets sinks and urinals)
- Sweep dust vacuum and mop common areas
- Clean walls windows and other surfaces
- Responding to and addressing cleaning emergencies such as spills or accidents.
- Ensure tidiness and professionalism in all aspects of daily work
- Be present and punctual on a routine basis
- Be willing to be coached and open to feedback
- Attend staff meetings and participate in all staff training
- Foster meaningful relationships with supervisors and co-workers
- Other duties and work at various sites may be required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Previous custodial/janitorial experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members
- Willingness to learn new skills and follow established procedures
- Strong organizational skills; able to work proactively and independently
- Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety is an asset
- Commitment to following Health & Safety regulations
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Availability to work weekdays evenings and weekends as required by assigned site
- The position will require frequent manual labor and working alone onsite at times
- Must have accessible transportation to move to various TMS locations as required
- This position is often fast-paced and requires moderate amount of mental and physical effort
- Able to lift 20 - 50lbs repeatedly and work a physically active job for 4 hours a day
- Considerable periods of standing walking lifting climbing stairs indoors and outdoors
- This position involves working in a challenging and potentially volatile environment where you may encounter racial slurs name-calling and derogatory comments from community members. It requires resilience conflict resolution skills and the ability to maintain professionalism and composure in the face of adversity. Training and support will be provided to ensure your safety and well-being.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
