The Team

Join our Avalanche and Weather Programs teaman established highly skilled group that values diversity and collaboration. Youll work alongside 12 team members throughout the province bringing together expertise in electronics communications networking and software to keep people safe and goods moving efficiently. The Role

The Assistant Environmental Electronics Technologist assists with monitoring maintaining and operating the Remote Weather and Environmental Sensing Networks across the provincework that directly improves public safety and supports climate readiness. Youll collaborate within a team and partners who bring unique perspectives and problem-solving skills while tackling tasks that range from designing and building weather stations to troubleshooting electronics in remote locations. This is a role where no two days are the same.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field plus 2 years related experience OR
  • High school Diploma plus three years related experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a comparable or similar capacity outdoors in an alpine environment in harsh winter conditions
  • Experience driving in adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain ice snow blowing snow mud and/or fog
  • Experience operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle including off-road
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a criminal records check and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry.

Preference may be given to the following experience:

  • Industry grade electronics and control systems
  • Experience in electronics instrumentation within a similar environmental monitoring program
  • Environmental data acquisition its collection analysis and application
  • Experience working at heights on communications towers and in mobile equipment (Bucket Trucks etc.)
  • High level of mechanical aptitude (use of hand and power tools etc.)

Provisos and Willingness Statements

  • Must be willing and able to work at heights on communication towers in mobile equipment
  • Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Must be willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings weekends and holidays when required.
  • Must be willing and physically able to conduct field work.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds (22.68 kg)

This position has full time on-site requirements
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent the following locations: Nelson Penticton Salmon Arm Duncan Prince George and Terrace.
