We are seeking a proactive and results-driven individual to step into the Claims Manager role. This is a critical position where you will be the strategic and operational leader for an assigned book of business ensuring we deliver on our commitment to our policyholders through best-in-class claim practices.

Required Skills

What you will do:

  • Claims Management Leadership: Lead and manage complex workers compensation claim handling functions to resolve claim-related issues for the assigned book of business. Routinely evaluate claim files provide necessary direction and conduct financial approvals within authorized reserve and settlement authority. Conduct and provide direction for major claim reviews including large loss Catastrophic (CAT) and Permanent Total (PT) meetings. Assign and monitor examiner caseloads with a focus on the quality and timeliness of work to ensure customer experiences and accuracy meet Montana State Fund (MSF) best practice standards. Identify and own opportunities to improve our claims experience and product.
  • Team Development & Oversight: Hire train lead coach and develop Claims Examiners to ensure optimal customer experiences engagement and performance. Set job performance expectations conduct ongoing reviews and finalize performance evaluations. Identify develop and implement growth opportunities training and career enhancement plans for the team. Manage and address staff performance issues in a timely and appropriate manner. Drive team engagement growth and effectiveness.
  • Strategic & Financial Accountability: Manage monitor and evaluate claims and policy loss ratio measures communicating variances to leadership and internal stakeholders (Underwriting Safety etc.). Monitor and address claim data discrepancies. Develop successful internal and external relationships and assist staff in handling escalated customer calls and resolving customer issues. Participate in planning developing and implementing consistent claim business unit processes procedures and strategies in collaboration with other managers.
  • Enterprise Collaboration & Project Leadership: In partnership with other department leaders collaborate on efforts to elevate our customers experience with Montana State Fund. Provide leadership and oversight for cross-functional initiatives and enterprise projects that require inter-departmental collaboration managing scope ensuring team alignment and driving timely execution in partnership with other department leaders. Participate in the planning development and implementation of corporate and/or departmental policies business processes and operation management. Seek constant improvement by sharing the most current job knowledge and technical skills with others.

Project support and other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

What you will need (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelors degree plus five (5) years progressively responsible workers compensation claims experience.

    • (or combination of education and MSF indemnity claims experience)

    • (or sooner when performancedemonstrates the ability to perform Claim Manager work for internal candidates only)

  • Leadership managerial and/or supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Leadership Managerial and/or supervisory experience may be used in lieu of experience for up to two (2) years of workers compensation experience with MSF when sufficient claim expertise is demonstrated.

Other requirements:

  • Regular attendance and presence in the designated workplace.

  • Must have demonstrated high level of judgement and decision making.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to mentor effectively.

  • Must have demonstrated high level of compliance with MSF Claim Best Practices Montana Workers Compensation Statutes and other jurisdictional case law application.

Compensation and Benefits:
Pay range MGR: Starting salary for this exempt position begins at $86300 - $107900 per year. The maximum salary range for this role is $129600.
