Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development developmental disabilities and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research several scientific research cores and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early-stage human clinical addition to its research efforts the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position will be within the Waisman Center University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) in the Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Unit. The mission of the UCEDD is to support the full inclusion and self-determination of people with developmental disabilities and their families through: development of personnel qualified to provide services in the health education and social service systems; provision of services technical assistance and the dissemination of information; and the contribution of new knowledge about the causes and prevention of developmental disabilities the impact of disabilities on individuals and families and the efficacy of assessment intervention and support methods.

The Outreach Specialist will coordinate the Parents Reaching Out (PRO) program and provide direct peer support to other families that have a child with a hearing difference in Wisconsin. The Outreach Specialist will facilitate connection between families seeking support and trained support parents in a timely fashion. The Outreach Specialist will also be responsible for data entry and monitoring via WE-TRAC hosting online and in-person group events program development progress reporting and evaluation.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to core functions of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) including activities of training/teaching conducting research disseminating evidence and best practices and demonstrating model services.

  • Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • Identifies promotes and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Researches develops and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • Leads the implementation of programs policies and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers

Compensation:

$27.00 per hour minimum; Pay is negotiable and will be based on education experience and skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience working with Parents Reaching Out and/or other deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) support program(s) as a service recipient and/or peer support provider.

  • At least one year of experience with documentation and data entry.

  • Experience training and providing feedback to adults working in parent to parent or family-centered programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with documentation and data entry in the state of Wisconsin early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) data system.

  • Demonstrated competency in strong interpersonal skills collaboration skills communication skills and professional behavior.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Experience with American Sign Language.

Education:

Bachelors Degree preferred

Additional Information:
