Job Summary

RN Med/Surg Telemetry Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the provision and coordination of patient-centered care on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit. The RN utilizes the nursing process of assessment planning implementation and evaluation to support optimal patient outcomes. The RN provides direct patient care within the scope of practice participates in patient and family teaching and collaborates with nursing ancillary and interdisciplinary team members to maintain professional standards of practice. The RN demonstrates the knowledge and skills required to provide care and service to all assigned patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Change dressings insert catheters start IVs and perform other nursing procedures within scope.

  • Obtain and document assessments medication administration treatments and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record.

  • Adjust and operate specialized medical equipment; interpret and record clinical measurements.

  • Monitor patients vital signs and report abnormal reactions or changes in condition promptly.

  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures treatments and discharge instructions.

  • Maintain and update patient charts files and clinical documentation.

  • Collect patient symptoms and history; collaborate with the healthcare team to assess plan implement and evaluate individualized care plans.

  • Organize and prioritize patient care follow protocols administer medications safely and support patient education.

  • Perform routine safety and equipment checks including monitors emergency equipment and oxygen systems.

  • Prepare and administer medications in accordance with nursing practice standards and facility policies.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers providers patients and families.

  • Support patient transfers discharges referrals and psychosocial/spiritual needs.

  • Utilize appropriate clinical equipment and monitoring devices as ordered.

  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions to patients and families.

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance in all documentation and communication.

  • Use SBAR for clinical communication across all handoffs and provider interactions.

  • Apply the nursing process (Assessment Diagnosis Planning Implementation Evaluation) in care delivery.

  • Escalate safety concerns and respond quickly and appropriately to emergent changes in patient condition.

  • Coordinate patient stabilization with medical staff EMS coworkers and family members.

  • Float to other clinical areas within scope as assigned.

  • Maintain clean organized and safe patient-care areas.

  • Complete all assigned training and competencies.

  • Perform additional duties within scope as assigned.

Telemetry-Specific Responsibilities
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms accurately.

  • Keep providers informed of rhythm changes and clinically significant events.

  • Document vital signs oxygen saturation and other telemetry-related parameters.

Qualifications (Legally Required)
  • Current and valid California RN License.

  • Current BLS (AHA) certification.

  • Current ACLS (AHA) certification.

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience in an acute care hospital.

  • Strong clinical skills in patient assessment medication administration and telemetry monitoring.

Shift Details
  • 12-hour shifts schedule based on unit needs.
