DescriptionAbout the Role
The Library Student Ambassadors will work up to three hours per week and will assist the Library Communications Coordinator and collaborate with the Student Library Engagement and Advisory Committee and other Library Student Ambassadors to plan develop and deliver student engagement-related initiatives. They will plan and deliver in-person and online student engagement activities and create social media content to promote the services and supports available to students via the Library. The purpose of the role is to raise student awareness of library resources and initiatives build community with and among students and improve the Librarys understanding of and outreach to MRU students. The role requires strong communication collaboration and organizational skills.
The Library Student Ambassador will work collaboratively to promote the following goals of the program :
- Nurturing relationships and good will between the library and student body
- Community building with and among MRU students
- Cultivating student engagement with the Library through activities and communication
- Cultivating awareness about library supports and services
- Promoting joy and fun in relation to the library the university experience and student life
Responsibilities
Student Outreach and Engagement (40%):
- Plans student engagement activities in the library across campus and online under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator
- Hosts and participates in activities and programs in-person and online
- Sets up and takes down in-person activities (e.g. table events) on campus
- Gathers information from students via informal means (brief in person interviews short surveys)
- Represents the Library at campus events as assigned
Content Creation (40%):
- With supervision creates social media content in various formats including text and video
- Carries out related filming script writing storyboarding voiceovers and production for approval by the Communications Coordinator
- Drafts print and online outreach and promotional materials
Research Planning and Consultation (20%)
- Generates ideas for engaging students in activities/events/programs/content through collaboration with library communications coordinator and other library staff and faculty
- Conducts background research on outreach topics
- Consults with relevant Library employees or specialists to inform outreach and engagement topics.
- Consults with library employees to provide student perspective on library communication marketing and activities and service development.
- Attends Ambassadors and Student Library Engagement Committee meetings and participates in relevant training.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will be enrolled in a degree program at MRU and will have completed at least 30 credits prior to the start of the position. Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program during the library ambassador program tenure.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Enthusiasm for the Library and its goals and for working with others in a positive way that builds community and goodwill.
- Creativity and and comfort with social media and appearing in promotional materials
Salary: $22.50 per hour
