Job Summary: The Director of Water Resources will establish and maintain engineering standards for water resources and rail infrastructure including engineering design and emergency response. This role focuses on expanding service offerings driving technical innovation and managing key accounts in the freight rail short line and industrial sectors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic plans to grow a Water Resources service line in the freight rail sector.
- Secure and manage projects with major clients (e.g. Class I railroads).
- Lead large-scale projects including flood resiliency programs drainage criteria development and bridge modification efforts.
- Establish standardized safety and data collection protocols to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
- Act as a trusted advisor and liaison between executive leadership and client stakeholders.
- Drive technological innovation.
- Represent the company in industry forums and deliver professional education programs.
- Contribute to a positive inclusive and respectful workplace culture free from behaviors that undermine morale productivity or organizational values
- Uphold the organizations standards of integrity accountability and respect in all duties and interactions
- Adhere to all company policies procedures and applicable laws and regulations
- Perform additional tasks as required to meet business needs
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Proven ability to grow practices and lead multi-office teams.
- Expertise in water resources engineering rail infrastructure and emergency response.
- Strong client relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Advanced technical knowledge in drainage flood resiliency and asset management systems.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and email and other software commonly employed to develop presentations and promotional materials
- Proven ability to exercise discretion in the handling of sensitive and/or confidential materials and information
- Strong skills in presenting and delivering new concepts and methods
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
- Professional Engineer (Civil) licensure.
- 20 years of experience in water resources and rail engineering.
- Demonstrated success in strategic leadership and client services.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Masters degree in Civil Engineering.
- Active involvement in AREMA including committee membership.
- Established relationships with railroad clients
- Business development skills
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and guidelines
Additional Qualifications Certifications etc.:
- Professional Engineer (PE) equivalent or authorization of CLPO
- Member of a professional practice organization national board member or officer recognized expert on statewide activity and a resource for national activities and organization
