You will also play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the centers production facilities ensuring they remain at the forefront of media and technology.

Description:

The Juilliard Schools Center for Creative Technology (the Center) is seeking an Assistant Director of Creative Technology to develop implement and support innovative multimedia experiences that enhance learning performance and creative expression. This role is ideal for a technically skilled and artistically driven professional who can bridge the gap between technology and the performing arts. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of the Center to design prototype and execute performing arts experiences including interactive media projects immersive experiences and performative installations. Additionally this position is responsible for supporting classroom activities and assisting with maintaining the Centers video and audio production facilities and equipment.

The salary range for this role is $72000-$80000 per year.

Role Responsibilities:

Video Production & Interactive Media:
  • Oversee the creation and integration of high-quality digital-visual content for performances events and digital platforms produced by the Center.
  • Utilize real-time video processing motion graphics and projection mappingto enhance stage productions and educational content produced by the Center.
  • Develop content and media that will be used as part of interactive installations and experiences produced by the Center using tools such as Max/MSP TouchDesigner Unreal Engine or Unity.
Classroom & Instructional Support:
  • Assist faculty teaching at the Center in integrating multimedia tools and interactive technologies into their coursework.
  • Provide technical support for classroom activities including video production interactive media and projection.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions to help students and faculty use digital tools effectively.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot media equipment in classrooms ensuring a seamless learning experience.
Facility & Equipment Management:
  • Assist with the operation and upkeep of the Center for Creative Technologys video and audio production facilities.
  • Maintain troubleshoot and repair video cameras audio recording equipment lighting setups and computer workstations working with the Schools IT department as necessary.
  • Coordinate equipment checkouts and reservations for students and faculty.
  • Research and recommend new video audio and interactive media technologies to enhance the centers capabilities.

Required Skills & Qualification:

  • Proficiency in video production and post-production including experience with software (Adobe Premiere Pro DaVinci Resolve After Effects or Final Cut Pro).
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing audiovisual (AV) hardware including DSLR/mirrorless cameras professional audio interfaces lighting rigs (e.g. LED panels DMX systems) and Windows/macOS-based computer workstations.
  • Hands-on experience with real-time media software (e.g. TouchDesigner Max/MSP Resolume Isadora Qlab).
  • Knowledge of projection mapping and interactive video technologies such as TouchDesigner.
  • Proficiency with game engines (Unreal Engine Unity) and real-time rendering workflows.
  • Basic programming/scripting knowledge (e.g. Python JavaScript C#) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists and educators.

Minimum Requirements:

Successful candidates will have:

  • 5-years experience working in a creative technology lab media arts center or performing arts institution.
  • Experience working in theatrical-stage environments or a new media gallery or studio
  • Strong background in some aspect of the arts; theater dance classical music or new media
  • Experience with Resolume Max/MSP Qlab and Unreal Engine.
  • Experience in or interest in developing new tools for interactive and multimedia art-making.
  • A degree in arts production digital performance technology digital-interactive arts or computer engineering with an emphasis on performing arts technology.
  • A strong passion for interdisciplinary collaboration between technology and the arts.

Work Environment:

  • The position allows for hybrid work however meetings with creatives and designers brain-storming sessions rehearsals and other activities that require or benefit from physical presence will be conducted on-campus.
  • Some flexibility in schedule will be required especially during rehearsals production performances and other activities that take place in one of Juilliards theaters.
  • Assistant Director will have a desk in a semi-private area with access to our studios for special meetings.
