As the alternate Senior Center Operator 1 you will be responsible for ensuring the center functions in a manner that promotes the well-being of each participant.Work involves maintaining inventory of nutrition supplies overseeing health and sanitation regulations as well as monitoring the quality of food. Additional responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the distribution of food items
- Processing special requests for therapeutic diets
- Sanitizing dining serving and kitchen areas
- Coordinating the washing of kitchen equipment and utensils
- Planning and implementing various programs
- Overseeing the counting and depositing of nutrition contributions
- Encouraging volunteer participation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for maintaining nutrition records inventory of nutrition supplies volunteer hours attendance records information the scheduling of center transportation overseeing the counting of nutrition contributions and depositing same. They shall encourage volunteer participation in center programs. Also this individual is expected to attend monthly nutrition meetings and various trainings.
Food Service:
- Overseeing of the nutrition component of the active adult center program including applicable health and sanitation regulations.
- Monitoring the quality of the bulk food temperature and portions (on a daily basis) and reporting inadequacies to the Nutrition Project Director (Senior Center Services Director 2).
- Preheating steam serving counter preparing coffee and cold beverages. Setting up serving counter with food trays dishes utensils and coordinating handing out hot food items with the use of volunteers
Food Sanitation:
- The individual in this position is responsible for coordinating the washing of pots pans and other preparatory utensils. They shall sanitize the dining area i.e. tables and chairs as well as the serving and kitchen areas.
- They are also responsible for coordinating the cleaning of the refrigerators food carts coffee pots and otherequipment with the help of volunteers.
- They will be responsible for planning implementing various programming and encouraging program clients to participate in recreational and instructional activities in the center.
Programs:
- The individual acts as an agency representative in all center related programs involving consumers. This includesresponding to questions for information via email in person or over the telephone. It also includes making referralsfor consumers to appropriate human service agencies or programs to obtain benefits and services to which they areeligible to receive.
- Responsible for the planning and implementing of various programs for the Active Adult Center
- Oversee the counting and depositing of the nutrition contributions
- Encourage the volunteers to participate within the center Maintain a record of attendance and the volunteer hours for the center
- Schedule the transportation for the center
- Encourage program clients to participate in the recreational and instructional activities in the center
- Attend the monthly nutrition meetings and various trainings
- Performs other duties as required
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior
- Ability to communicate effectively orally
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetical operations (addition subtraction multiplication division).
- Ability to organize and lead the activities of people individually and in groups
- Ability to record information on standardized forms such as the names and addresses of consumers the number of consumers in attendance the receipt and expenditures of funds and related data either manually or through the use of computer software programs.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with consumers co-workers and personnel from various public and private agencies.
