The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Student Extern program is a ten week program. The summer nurse extern under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse is responsible and accountable for providing safe direct patient care and appropriate documentation for a pediatric hematology/oncology patient population. With the assistance of the Nursing Education Department and the Unit Council the nurse extern will identify and participate in a unit based project.

St. Jude is happy to announce that we are now accepting applications for our Summer Nurse Externship program. Applications will only be accepted November 19 - December 20 2025.

As a Nurse Student Extern youll be responsible for providing technical assistance under the direction of a registered nurse to achieve quality patient outcomes. If selected youll serve in our Inpatient Units Outpatient Clinics or Surgical Services department.

WORK SCHEDULE:

36-40 hours/week varying shifts

Start date: June 1 2026*

The duration of the Summer Nurse Externship is 8-10 weeks.

*To maintain the integrity of our program all nurse externs must start on the same date

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school of nursing and is within 12 months of projected graduation date with a BSN. Must be in good academic standing to participate. Completion of pediatric nursing course is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
