Postdoctoral position Neuro-Immunology/Autoimmunity


One postdoctoral research fellow position is available immediately under the mentorship of Dr. Eliver Ghosn in the Department of Medicine Division of Immunology and Dr. Grace Gombolay in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Neurology.

The candidate will lead projects to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammatory autoimmune diseases in children and adults including antibody-mediated autoimmune encephalitis (AE) and multiple sclerosis (MS). The candidate will join our multi-disciplinary team of researchers including immunologists PhD students physician-scientists and bioinformaticians. The postdoctoral fellow will work in an NIH-funded laboratory and will have access to state-of-the-art technologies in multi-omics single-cell sequencing and Hi-D flow cytometry. The project focuses on the role of B cells plasma cells and (auto)antibody responses in neuroinflammatory diseases using patient samples (CSF and matching blood) ex vivo models and humanized mice. The results from your projects will provide new insights into the (auto)immune mechanisms underlying neuroinflammatory disorders thereby improving diagnosis treatment and the prediction of relapses in these diseases.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. An MD/PhD or PhD in immunology or related fields with basic experience in standard laboratory techniques for immunology and/or molecular biology/genetics.
2. Preference for applicants who are finishing graduate school or have less than 2 years of postdoctoral experience but all post-graduate career stages will be considered.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

You will join a vibrant team of researchers at various career stages interests and backgrounds including undergrads and grad students (masters and PhD) postdocs physician-scientists and career scientists. The work schedule is flexible and will be performed in person in our open-concept space on the second floor of a new sunlight-drenched research building (HSRB) at Emorys main campus. The state-of-the-art equipment and resources are within the HSRB building. The candidate will also have access to resources from our affiliated institutions including the Emory Vaccine Center Emory Primate Center Georgia Tech Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta the Lowance Center for Human Immunology Laney Graduate Programs and others.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others train and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D. M.D. ScD. D.V.M. DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
