Non-Financial Risk Organization Overview:
The second- line Non-Financial Risk NFR organization includes the Compliance Global Financial Crimes and Operational Risk departments and provides a single comprehensive and consistent second-line view of these non-financial risks. Non-Financial Risk encompasses risks which are not financial in nature and could have a potential economic reputational regulatory financial reporting or client impact from (i) failed or inadequate processes data or controls; ii) infrastructure or environmental factors; or iii) intentional or inadvertent actions of employees or external parties. The second-line NFR organization partners with the first-line business units to advise train manage report identify analyze and escalate non-financial risks.
The role will reside within the Non-Financial Risk Department with primary responsibility for Business Disruption and Resilience Compliance and Risk Management (collectively BDR NFR) and Third Party risk coverage for the MSESE Group. The role will report into the Head of Operational risk Department of MSESE Group and EMEAl Head of Third Party and BDR NFR. The individual will partner closely with the global Third Party and BDR team to collectively set standards and implement the global framework at MSESE Group.
There is a need to drive evolution and transparency of the underlying frameworks managing BDR risk and regulatory compliance support adoption of industry leading practices and technologies and introduce new controls and processes to bolster the existing frameworks. The individual will play a critical role in driving non-financial risk management activities which will include work on regulatory interpretation and rule mapping to framework risk metrics deep dives and analyses concentration and risk assessments. The individual will also support adoption of these risk management activities within the framework standards methodology while driving day-to-day oversight of these risks across the MSESE Groups business units and support functions.
Responsibilities:
- Manage BDR and Third party risk and regulatory identification measurement and escalation in support of the MSESE Group NFR management
- Monitor MSESE Group risk appetite and tolerances for BDR and Third party risk against established tolerance levels
- Contribute to regulatory compliance mapping against policies and procedures acting as legal entity subject matter expert and maintain change management process for new and emerging regulations
- Helping to prepare reporting to MSESE Group risk governance committees and boards
- Lead reviews and challenge other reviews of material operational risk events and analyses of thematic operational risks stemming from third parties or BDR
- Collaborate with 2LOD partners to establish appropriate metrics and analytical tools to support the measurement of risks
- Lead and manage MSESE Group scenario analyses activities where significant Third Party or BDR risks are assessed
- Oversee risk assessments and monitor data used to identify heightened risk and help develop risk remediation requirements
- Work closely with second line regional and firm counterparts and leads of other risk areas to ensure alignment of strategic risk management initiatives
- Partner with the first line programs and Business Units to develop a perspective on BDR and Third Party risks and ensure consideration of evolving regulatory expectations
- Work collaboratively in a high performing global team responsible for identifying assessing reporting and capturing risk information
- Build solid relationships across divisions and control groups - An undergraduate degree (B.A. B.S. or equivalent) required
- Eight or more years of relevant Financial Services risk management experience; exposure to sourcing / procurement supply chain risk management preferable
- Solid understanding of third party and BDR related regulations and industry frameworks especially relating to operational risk management
- Strong knowledge of business disruption controls including continuity planning system and data recovery
- Strong risk process and control validation and/or assessment skills - a prior role within consulting second line or internal audit covering risk processes is desirable
- Familiarity with relevant regulations
- Ability to work on challenging assignments in a dynamic environment synthesize information distil relevant facts and reach logical conclusions
- Demonstrated ability to: prioritize competing responsibilities work under pressure meet challenging deadlines and can build and maintain effective business relationships
- Ability to work in a team environment building and maintain a network of contacts and coordinating with many stakeholders
- Proven ability to anticipate and identify risks and identify effective mitigation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of technology related regulations and industry frameworks especially relating to operational risk management
- Strong organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize; ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written; ability to present ideas concisely and persuasively with tailoring to technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficient in MS Office applications (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint)
