Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the Michailidis Lab at Emory University. The lab focuses on Virus-Host interactions using innovative tools including state-of-the-art targeted and whole-genome CRISPR screens bulk and single-cell transcriptomics and a set of molecular virological and biochemical assays across different viruses (HBV HIV). The lab has also a special interest in liver-related studies including viral hepatitis fatty-liver disease and immunometabolism employing advanced primary human hepatocyte culture systems and humanized liver-chimeric mice. The lab is housed in the modern and open-space Health Sciences and Research Building. Emory University is one of the top US academic institutions with highly impactful research programs and provides access to core facilities with cutting-edge technologies. Emory is located in the suburbs of Atlanta a vibrant metropolitan city that combines city life attractions inside a forest landscape.

Candidates must be highly motivated well organized technically proficient critically minded and able to work independently but collaboratively with others. Candidates must possess a PhD MD or MD/PhD with a strong background in virology or other areas relevant to our research.

List of preferred technical skills (not all necessary):

  • Bioinformatics analysis (RNA-Seq analysis)
  • Cell culture (cell lines primary cells)
  • Virology background

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.
  • The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc.
  • Designs and evaluates experiments.
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • May be responsible for operation of specific equipment.
  • May teach techniques to others train and supervise research staff.
  • Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.
  • The initial appointment is for one year renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available.
  • Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D. M.D. ScD. D.V.M. DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
