ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35000 students attending a variety of programs across 66 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin Wellington and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit the Six Nations of the Grand River and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Maintenance team in the capacity of Electrical Technician. This is a permanent full-time position to commence as soon as possible.

Location: Assignments to all schools/locations maintained by the UGDSB.

Hours of work/FTE : 1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week

Rate of Pay : Base Hourly rate: $34.54 per hour (probationary rate) $36.74 per hour (permanent rate); wage rate effective September 1 2025

*Labour market adjustment of 10.5% to be applied to base hourly rate; hourly probationary rate inclusive of market adjustment is $38.17 per hour hourly permanent rate inclusive of market adjustment is $40.60 per hour ; wage rate effective September 1 2025

Board Information: 12 months; permanent full-time; Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)

Responsibilities:

  • Install maintain and repair wiring conduit fixtures isolating switches circuit breakers service entrances motor starters wiring devices and lighting systems
  • Install and/or modify electrical service panels
  • Operate and diagnose discrepancies with computer-based control systems
  • Perform conduit bending for above and below ground installations
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on Electrical Control Systems
  • Maintain current knowledge of motor controls devices relays and the Electrical Code
  • Report required repairs and safety hazards at all Board facilities to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager
  • Responsible for maintaining Board tools in good repair
  • Install maintain and repair emergency lighting motors and controls public address systems and automatic clock systems
  • Repair and maintain building electrics operating equipment (e.g. pump fans hand tools vacuums and polishers including any gas or arc welding required)
  • Service and repair electric heating systems
  • Perform Type 1 and/or II asbestos removal if qualified
  • Prepare estimates for project work
  • Maintain proper inventory and tools
  • Comply with all requirements of the OHSA Electrical Code Fire Code Ontario Building Code WHMIS and Board policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Qualification as a Construction Maintenance Electrician 309A License
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Current Ontario drivers license with an acceptable drivers abstract
  • Ability to maintain a work schedule with minimum supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to perform all requirements of the position
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS program
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks
  • Familiarity with a computerized work order system is preferred
  • Basic computer skills (Word and Excel) is preferred
  • Fire alarm certification would be an asset
