Job Summary

Reporting to the Recreation Aquatics Division and collaborating with the Recreation Facilities Team the Facilities Management Technician III Aquatics is responsible for coordinating and performing maintenance repairs and safety operations for all City of Greeley pools waterparks and splashpads. Core duties include inspections preventive maintenance and cleaning to ensure facility safety and functionality. This role requires strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address on-site maintenance issues and provide technical support for maintenance and construction activities across Culture Parks and Recreation Department (CPRD) facilities. The technician may serve as project manager for repair remodeling and renovation projects ensuring compliance with all applicable federal state and local building and accessibility codes.

Experience Knowledge Skills

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Specialized training through a program related to the position duties
  • Three to Five (3-5) years of relevant experience
  • Certified Pool Operator of Aquatic Facility Operator or acquire within 30 days of employment.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.

OR

  • Any Combination of related education experience certifications and licenses that will results in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

AND

  • Possession of a valid drivers license.

Preferred

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard and/or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) written and verbal skills.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • In depth knowledge of power and hand tools normally associated with carpentry plumbing electrical and general maintenance including operation of work vehicles man lifts utility vehicles and ability to safely pull trailers.
  • Problem solving and decision making is an essential skillset for this position.
  • General knowledge of procedures practices or operations required.
  • Able to follow detailed instructions.
  • Computer skills including typing and bookkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work.
  • Patience and good judgement when assisting guests and stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Knowledge in hazardous chemicals masonry plumbing painting and electrical component installation and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of BecSYS chemical controllers Stenner Pumps various filter medias and Co2 feeders.
  • Familiarity with local health codes and aquatic safety standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in using pool maintenance tools test kits and monitoring equipment.
  • Attention to detail and record-keeping accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with staff vendors and the public.

Travel

  • Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings trainings or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoots diagnoses and performs maintenance and repairs on CPRD facilities including locks doors flooring fixtures interior and exterior walls painting plumbing and electrical systems.

  • Performs pool winterization seasonal startups and maintenance of structural and mechanical pool features.

  • Ensures all facilities comply with applicable federal state and local building electrical mechanical fire safety and accessibility codes.

  • Analyzes maintenance and operational issues and implements effective corrective actions.

  • Develops plans specifications and cost estimates for projects presented to CPRD stakeholders.

  • Assists in the design estimating scheduling and management of repair remodeling and renovation projects including bid documents contractor coordination and project completion.

  • Communicates with staff regarding work requests and coordinates with vendors and contractors for materials equipment and project scheduling.

  • Leads and supervises vendors contractors AmeriCorps crews and part-time employees to ensure quality work and timely completion of assigned tasks.

  • Leads seasonal preparation and winterization of outdoor pools and assists with capital improvement projects and facility upgrades.

  • Diagnoses repairs and maintains City-owned pools splash parks and aquatic equipment including pumps filters slides diving boards play features and ADA lifts.

  • Monitors and maintains proper water chemistry across all aquatic facilities ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

  • Operates inspects and maintains tools and equipment performing minor repairs and adjustments as needed.

  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities and prepares daily weekly and monthly reports.

  • Identifies and reports equipment faults water issues and emerging maintenance needs to supervisors.

  • Assists with staff training for lifeguards and aquatic personnel in coordination with the aquatics team.

  • Manages purchasing and inventory of pool chemicals and mechanical supplies while adhering to budget guidelines.

  • Ensures proper storage handling and documentation of hazardous chemicals maintaining SDS PPE and compliance with Risk Management protocols.

  • Coordinates with Public Works Parks and other City departments to support facility operations and maintenance needs.

  • Responds to facility emergencies such as burst pipes or system malfunctions as needed.

  • Participates in team meetings training sessions and departmental initiatives to support continuous improvement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Works with large quantities of hazardous materials.

  • Performs work in variable weather conditions. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with outdoor work taking place throughout the year.

  • Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact.

  • May be exposed to chemicals loud noises bodily fluids cleaning solutions dust and fumes.

  • Working environments also include confined spaces pump rooms chemical storage areas.

  • Use of ladders and lifts in narrow and tight spaces is required.

  • May need to work mornings evenings weekends and holidays. The ability to have a flexible schedule is preferred.

  • May require on-call status to respond to chemical imbalances and mechanical needs as the facilities are open between 6am and 8pm.

Physical Requirements

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Vision enough to read computer keyboards reference books and other written documents.

  • Communication skills sufficient to convey information to the public via telephone email and in person.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately input retrieve and verify work assignments.

  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g. 50-100 pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.

  • Must be able to sit walk climb balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl and taste or smell.

  • Must be able to climb on ladders and other similar device.
