Position Summary
The Coordinator of Summit Scholars will support the Director in the planning and implementation of the project. Responsibilities of the Coordinator include: assisting with planning and implementing the SSS program; assisting with preparing required fiscal and performance reports; assisting with ensuring adherence to all applicable state and federal requirements; discussing educational opportunities and financial aid options with individual students and groups; providing support for social emotional learning; providing successful intervention strategies and referrals to other support services as needed; presenting information about college success strategies and SSS services to individuals and groups; entering and tracking SSS participant information and data; conducting follow-up to track student progress and outcomes. This position will also support TRIO SSS participants as a coach and be designated a caseload.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Director to ensure the goals and objectives of the SSS project are completed
- Utilizing College resources and information and working within College policies develop implement and coordinate innovative and impactful academic support and retention interventions and initiatives to impact the success and lifelong learning of student participants
- Maintain systems for tracking TRIO SSS student retention and persistence towards graduation
- Assist in the identification and selection of program participants
- Create weekly monitoring reports quarterly reports and other statistical data to show program impact
- Maintain detailed records of all aspects of students progress including academic social and personal
- Maintain a coaching caseload of participants within the grant project
- Coordinate programming related to the SSS Project particularly related to recruitment retention graduation and transfer
- Develop plan and chaperone activities events field trips and college tours per the program proposal
- Drive an MCC van bus or rental vehicle for program activities/events ensuring safe transportation of students and staff to off-campus events field trips and other designated locations.
- Understanding MCC budget procedures support the fiscal operations for TRIO SSS operations including providing budget recommendations making purchases and reporting of contributions
- Help students gain or improve necessary skills for academic success including goal setting time management development of study skills and career/major planning
- Develop relationships with student participants that will allow to understand the students academic history financial aid requirements workload and personal/family situations as appropriate
- Meet with assigned students on a regular basis to monitor and follow up on student progress including GPA credits academic program completion/graduation transfer and athletic eligibility
- Collaborate with various campus support offices and faculty to ensure smooth transitions for all facets of the TRIO SSS student experience from enrollment to completion
- Design implement and facilitate workshops to enhance academic success
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues stakeholders vendors) to accomplish TRIO SSS program responsibilities and activities
- Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in counseling higher education adult education or related field
- Minimum of three years of directly related experience in counseling advising or higher education
- Experience implementing educational programs for students with diverse academic socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with financial literacy and career coaching
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
- Experience working with TRIO Programs in a higher education setting
Skills and Specifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of databases.
- Ability to learn new technological applications.
- Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with highly detailed information and disseminate that information to diverse groups and individuals.
- Sensitivity to students whose cultural and educational experiences differ from his/her own.
- Ability to meet deadlines manage multiple tasks problem-solve organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision and by using independent judgment.
- Willingness to share responsibility for improving work relations as a collaborative team member.
- Ability to work under pressure with composure.
- Ability to follow leadership and college-wide procedures.
- Ability to work in a high-quality focused service environment in a professional manner with excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Ability to demonstrate effective teaching and academic counseling skills.
- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license safe driving record current automobile insurance and use of personal car.
- Ability to travel between MCC Harvard High School and other planned event sites.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed including onsite residence with students in dorms while on college tours and field trips and during the Summer Academy.
- Ability to safely handle heavy books packages and book trucks up to 20 pounds unassisted.
