PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine sample preparation processes related to the established Sample preparation procedure.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collecting of samples from Sample Receiving area.
- Perform the sorting weighing drying and crushing of samples as required by the clients instructions.
- Perform the splitting pulverizing and packing of samples in the correct order to avoid swapping.
- Oversee particle size analyses process and do daily screen checks.
- Follow immediate superiors clear detailed instructions and demonstrate flexibility in executing the duties.
- Assist in the housekeeping to ensure that the work areas and surrounding environment is kept clean at all times.
- Comply and conform to the QHSE policy of the company.
- Must comply and conform to the Quality Management System (ISO17025 and SANAS).
- Assist with the maintenance of the laboratory instruments and apparatus.
- Must have an understanding of the LIMS.
- Training new laboratory employees within sample preparation department.
- Provide a daily detailed production report.
- Must be willing to work overtime when necessary.
- Schedule the day-to-day production work and ensuring that the planned work is completed within the specified time frame.
- Oversees Sample tracking storage and discarding of sample rejects.
- Assist with the monthly stock count and maintenance of the correct consumable stock.
- Assist in the investigation of any irregularities within the Sample Preparation process including the Improvement requests and clients complaints.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Specific Authorities
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
- Report any faulty and/or nonfunctioning apparatus or equipment to the immediate superior.
- Each staff member has the authority to cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard and/or work that may affect the quality or integrity of test results.
- Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation. The employee has the responsibility to protect the environment as well.
- Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
- Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
COMPLIANCE & AUTHORITY
- Compliant with all SGS QOH&S and HR policies and procedures
- Granted sufficient authority to achieve the given responsibilities as per relevant SGS Authority policies
- Responsible for the daily safety and health of employees on behalf of SGS upper management and for raising issues with SGS upper management where required
- Keep up to date on SGS inspection policies and procedures. Apply the necessary policy to all inspections to avoid misunderstandings during inspections
- Adhere to all QHSE requirements of the SGS management systems.
Qualifications :
Education
- Minimum Matric with Mathematics and Science
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years in the sample preparation environment.
Competencies
- Full knowledge of sample preparation techniques
