Job Description:
A welder performs various duties includingreading blueprints preparing metal materials and expertly joining or repairing metal parts using different welding techniques like MIG TIG or arc welding.Key responsibilities involve operating welding equipment ensuring work quality and safety through inspections and following protocols and collaborating with teams to complete projects according to specifications.
Core Responsibilities
- Interpret technical documents:Read and understand engineering drawings blueprints and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Material preparation:Cut grind and clean metal surfaces to prepare them for welding.
- Welding operations:Perform various welding processes (MIG TIG arc) to join metal and other materials often in multiple positions (flat vertical overhead).
- Fabrication and repair:Assemble and join metal components to create structures or repair existing metal products and equipment.
- Quality control:Inspect and test welds to ensure they meet quality standards and project specifications.
- Equipment operation:Set up operate and maintain welding equipment hand tools and sometimes heavy machinery.
- Safety adherence:Follow all safety protocols wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaboration:Work with team members supervisors and other workers (like fitters and fabricators) to ensure projects are completed on time and according to specifications.
Essential Skills
- Technical proficiency:Expertise in different welding techniques including MIG TIG and arc welding.
