Nutrition Services Coordinator

Purpose Statement:

The Nutrition Services Coordinator supports the daily operations of the Ankeny School Nutrition Program by coordinating logistics related to food and supply ordering warehouse distribution inventory tracking and vendor communication. This position ensures accurate data entry in nutrition systems and provides frontline operational support to school kitchens and department leadership.

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associates or bachelors degree in Nutrition Hospitality or related field preferred
  • 13 years of food service experience in a school or institutional setting; 35 years preferred
  • Strong knowledge of foodservice logistics inventory practices and vendor coordination
  • Familiarity with USDA child nutrition programs and food safety requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency with inventory and menu software systems (e.g. PrimeroEdge).
  • ServSafe certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board

Key Job Responsibilities

Software & System Coordination

  • Enter and maintain accurate product recipe and pricing data in the departments nutrition software system (e.g. PrimeroEdge)
  • Ensure point-of-sale (POS) data and screens are updated and accurate across school sites
  • Run system reports as requested to support menu planning procurement and compliance
  • Complete seasonal system rollovers and data setup with oversight from department leadership

Inventory & Vendor Coordination

  • Assist with inventory management at the central warehouse and satellite schools
  • Monitor usage trends and coordinate recurring orders for food and supply items
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors regarding order issues substitutions or delivery timing
  • Support implementation of procurement plans including forecasting and tracking usage

Procurement Support & Vendor Coordination

  • Submit routine food and supply orders in alignment with menu cycles and school site needs
  • Communicate minor order changes or substitutions with vendors escalating larger issues as needed
  • Track deliveries and report any discrepancies or shortages to the appropriate department lead
  • Assist with forecasting food and supply needs based on inventory reports and usage trends

Warehouse & Delivery Oversight

  • Supervise the Nutrition Services delivery driver including routing support and performance feedback
  • Schedule and coordinate deliveries to ensure timely and accurate food distribution to school sites
  • Monitor and maintain warehouse organization food rotation and safety standards

Catering Program Management

  • Plan coordinate and oversee the preparation and delivery of meals and snacks for catered events.
  • Maintain accurate records of meal counts production logs and inventory related to catered events.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Dietitian to adjust menus as needed based on program requirements student preferences and feedback.

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Oversight

  • Serve as the primary administrator of the SFSP ensuring full compliance with USDA regulations and district policies.
  • Recruit train and supervise seasonal SFSP staff members responsible for meal production distribution and site monitoring.
  • Monitor site operations to ensure timely and safe delivery of meals proper documentation and adherence to sanitation standards.

Other Functions

  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators district staff public agencies community members etc.) to implement and maintain services and programs ensuring effective communication and cooperation.
  • Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all employees fostering a welcoming and approachable atmosphere.
  • Uphold integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Treat all employees with respect engaging in a professional and considerate manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with all school personnel maintaining positive and productive communication.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and policies established by the Ankeny Community School District to ensure the safety of oneself and others.
  • Support District goals and objectives while adhering to all District policies contributing to the overall success of the school community.
  • Demonstrate regular and dependable attendance to ensure smooth District operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Environment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
