Job Summary

Lower Merion School District is hiring an Assistant Director of Operations. This is an ongoing year-round position. This position is part of the Districts Act 93 (LMOSA) Administrators group and compensation plan.

Position Goal: The Assistant Director of Operations is responsible for providing high quality support systems to ensure the success of the Districts educational program. Supervises all buildings and grounds maintenance projects and custodial services. Serves as the primary assistant to the Director of Operations acting in that position when the Director is absent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • As a senior member of the Operations Department supervisor team provide strong leadership for approximately 125 employees. Assist in establishing and maintaining a positive work atmosphere that promotes transparency and fairness.
  • Uphold Board policies and implement administrative guidelines and procedures.
  • Set a high standard for ethical behavior and transparency. Uphold District civility standards and set example for other staff.
  • Provide leadership and management that results in well-maintained facilities to support the educational and co-curricular programs of the District.
  • Participate in the hiring process for department administrators secretaries and other positions as required.
  • Act as an in-house technical resource for other members of the Operations Department.
  • Understand and stay current with state and local laws and regulations pertaining to areas of responsibility to ensure that the school district remains in compliance.
  • Responsible for assisting the Director to include acting in his absence in providing functional clean comfortable and safe educational facilities.
  • Evaluate the performance of the supervisors and foremen of the grounds building maintenance and custodial groups.
  • Assist supervisors and foremen with employee-related issues.
  • Establish and maintain budgets for grounds building maintenance and custodial. Manage expenditures related to these functions.
  • Other roles and duties as may be assigned by the Director of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering Architecture Facilities Management or related degree
  • Minimum ten years successful supervisory experience in school facilities management.
  • School District or educational institution experience is preferred but not
  • A verifiable record of leadership ability and success.
  • Embody high ethical standards and integrity. Accept responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including active listening observation reading verbal nonverbal and writing skills. Ability to present information to administrators staff and community.
  • Ability to effectively solve problems.
  • Ability to function in a team environment within an organization that has multiple lines of authority.
  • Ability to learn quickly and utilize new methods and technology as they apply to facility maintenance.
  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Basic knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Value diversity. Skillfully manage individual group and organizational interactions.
  • Must be able to set and work within a department
  • Must be able to analyze complex situations and conceptualize district-wide issues regarding subject

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The work environment is a busy school district with 11 school buildings and other administrative and operations-based facilities.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with students teachers parents other administrators and community members.
  • Abilty to work cooperatively with multiple departments and building teams.
  • Must be able to inspect all areas of school district buildings and property.
  • Able to sit; stand; walk up to 8 hours/day.
  • Occasionally bend kneel squat use hands and fingers for repetitive motion; climb
