Responsibilities
Context:
Our T&D Power Systems team assists clients in achieving compliance and efficiency by
conducting power systems studies to navigate the design grid connection and access standards
for their energy generation and transmission projects. You will become part of a global tight-knit
team of power systems engineers engaged in diverse projects supporting multiple type of
international interconnection and grid connection projects (including solar wind hydro battery
energy storage and HVDC interconnectors).
Our team also provides technical assistance to Transmission Grid Operators (TSOs) and utilities
helping the private sector secure crucial grid investments through expert technical support. This
role offers a unique opportunity to develop your career and play a pivotal role in expanding and
shaping our business across Asia for a multinational company while supporting clients not only
in Asia but also in Australia Europe and Africa.
Regular working days: Mon-Fri. 8 hours/day 5 days/week
Responsibility:
- Conduct advanced power system studies (steady-state load flow short-circuit and dynamic stability analyses) for generation grid connection projects and transmission planning studies (feasibility and design stages). Projects will be primarily across Asia-Pacific but also in Europe the Middle East Africa and Australia.
- Perform detailed power system modeling and simulations for grid integration of converter-based resources including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems renewable energy plants (solar and wind) and battery energy storage systems. Analyze their impact on the transmission network focusing on feasibility studies and compliance with grid requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive technical study reports for a range of clients (energy project
developers utilities TSOs) from high-level grid connection feasibility studies to in-depth
static and dynamic study reports. Ensure findings are clearly communicated and meet
the relevant standards and client expectations. - Conduct complex assessments and provide specialist solutions on power system issues.
This may include performing generator or converter model validations stability
improvement strategies and proposing mitigation measures for network constraints. You
will also deliver technical presentations and training to internal teams and external
clients sharing knowledge on topics such as HVDC integration grid stability and
emerging technologies (e.g. HVDC links STATCOMs and grid-forming inverter
technologies). - Contribute to project execution by leading or coordinating complex study tasks
especially those involving converter-based resources - Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed formats and timelines. As a senior engineer
review and validate the work of junior engineers when necessary providing mentorship
and technical guidance to uphold quality and accuracy. - Engage in continuous professional development and industry activities. This includes
attending or presenting at conferences participating in industry forums and staying up
to date with the latest developments in power system simulation tools and grid
integration technologies to continually enhance our service offerings.
Qualifications :
Qualifications and Requirements
- Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field).
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in power system modeling and analysis for
international grid connections and transmission projects. This should include hands-on
experience with generation interconnection feasibility studies transmission planning
and network stability assessments ideally in a utility/TSO or power engineering
consultancy environment. - Proven knowledge and experience on performing complex transmission power system
studies such as: steady state analysis short circuit analysis transient stability analysis
generator model validation. Any additional experience on the following fields is beneficial:
electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations cable design protection coordination and
relay settings studies harmonic analysis small signal stability adequacy studies and
probabilistic approaches. - Proven experience in modelling and integrating HVDC systems and inverter-based
resources into transmission networks with a focus on assessing their feasibility and
impact on grid stability. Familiarity with emerging grid-forming converter technologies
and their application in renewable energy integration is beneficial. - Experience working closely with or within transmission utilities/TSOs on interconnection
projects or advanced grid studies (e.g. cross-border interconnectors renewable energy
integration large-scale battery storage projects). - Familiar with international grid codes and standards (e.g. IEC IEEE) relevant to
transmission planning and grid connection requirements. - Strong proficiency in power system simulation software Siemens PSSE and/or
DIgSILENT PowerFactory and/or PSCAD (in particular for electromagnetic transient
studies or detailed converter modelling). Ability to automate studies using Python
scripting is beneficial. - Ability to manage tasks effectively under time and resource constraints delivering results
with good quality even under pressure. - Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and a collaborative team-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken) as this role involves liaising
with international teams and clients. - Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent credentials in any of the above-
mentioned countries is an advantage (but not required).
