Job Summary:
The 4th 6th Grade Spanish Teacher (Long-Term Substitute) inspires curiosity confidence and cultural appreciation through engaging student-centered language instruction. This educator fosters Spanish proficiency in listening speaking reading and writing while integrating authentic cultural experiences that bring the language to life. The position provides an optimal age-appropriate Spanish immersion-style classroom learning environment teaching students the beauty of an additional language.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Delivers engaging Spanish lessons to fourth through sixth grade students aligned with grade-level standards using the established unit plans and instructional materials.
- Promotes engagement in Spanish language history and culture by collaborating colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and fostering connections with native speakers.
- Assesses and monitors student progress providing meaningful feedback and support for continued growth.
- Accurately records and reports student grades and narrative feedback through the schools online grading system and trimester report cards.
- Assumes the regular teachers daily duties such as supervising students during recess lunch or dismissal.
- Implements effective classroom management strategies that support a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Actively engages in the life of the school and contributes to community-wide events and programs.
- Upholds and models the mission values and strategic priorities of STS.
- Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with students families and colleagues.
- Collaborates across departments and participates in grade level and division meetings to support a cohesive preschool through eighth grade experience.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
- Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Middle School.
Qualifications
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Spanish education or a related field; masters degree or teaching certification preferred.
- 2 years of experience teaching at the upper elementary or middle school level; 5 years preferred.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English; native or near-native proficiency preferred.
- Deep understanding of the cultures histories and contemporary contexts of Spanish-speaking regions.
- Strong knowledge of language acquisition differentiated instruction and intercultural competency.
- Experience teaching engaging developmentally appropriate Spanish instruction at the upper elementary or middle school level.
- Ability to actively supervise students both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Readiness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification and maintain throughout employment
- Successful completion of required background checks in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
- Strong classroom management communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative flexible and growth-oriented mindset.
- Proficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
- Commitment to the mission values and community of STS.
