TITLE:Nutrition Specialist II
SUPERVISOR: Food Service Manager
JOB TYPE: This is a Classified Position typically 6am - 2:30pm Monday 8 hours with a 30 minute unpaid lunch
SUMMARY:The Nutrition SpecialistII will serve students consistently attractive nutritionally balanced meals that comply with USDA mean requirements maintain all sanitation regulations and maintain efficiency in job and inventory productivity. This is the second level of a two-level series.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skills and/or abilities required. - High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- 18 years of age or older.
- Two years of experience as commercial cook OR an Associates Degree in Food Service Management Foods and Hospitality Service or a directly-related field.
- Ability to prepare food and work with portion control.
- Ability to operate industrial dishwashers mixers ovens and other related school kitchen equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards safety practices and precautions.
- Ability to supervise student helpers and staff who work in the kitchen/cafeteria.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students parents and staff.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to use fractions decimals and commercial arithmetic.
- Basic computer skills as well as Microsoft Word Excel and email.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Ordering of food for planned menus while controlling inventory costs.
- Understand and maintain meal pattern requirements set by the USDA.
- Plan nutritional balanced menus incorporating USDA commodities and on-hand inventory.
- Follow Oregon State sanitation regulations.
- Continually upgrading meals and testing new recipes for evaluation.
- Compile and develop standardized recipes.
- Basic knowledge of all aspects of food preparation.
- Responsible for food preparation in a safe manner.
- Assign duties to assistant cooks.
- Oversee quality and quantity of food prepared.
- Training of new food service staff.
- Train oversee and evaluate student workers.
- Record and calculate daily minimum nutritional requirements/maintain production records.
- Inventory control of all supplies and equipment.
- Catering for functions sponsored by the Siuslaw School District.
- Assist with menus meal counts and cash sheets.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques at in-services.
- Report hazardous problems or equipment malfunctions to Food Service Manager.
- Fill and maintain self-serve vendors fountains and coolers.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.
- Participate in in-service training as assigned.
- Act as a friendly ambassador for the Siuslaw School District.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
- Must possess a valid Food Handlers Certificate or be able to get one within 30 days (OAR 333.175.000).
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
- First Aid Training and CPR Certification required (training provided by District).
- Pre-employment physical required.
- Valid Oregon Drivers License.
- Pre-employment drug screening.
PHYSICAL/WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Moderate degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking bending reaching twisting and prolonged periods of standing.
- Exposure to noise heat cold hot and cold surfaces sharp and moving equipment.
- Requires coordination and dexterity to prepared foods.
- Ability to move freely around the kitchen and storage areas to perform food preparation and food service duties.
- Work environment is primarily in a school building environment and may include work performed outdoors.
CONDITIONS:
This is a classified 10-month position.
SALARY:
Will be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement. The amount due under the contract will be pro-rated monthly in accordance with district policy.
