I. General Summary
Under general supervision independently provides medical nutrition therapy to adult inpatients in a community based clinical setting. Uses own knowledge and skills to identify and re-evaluate nutrition risk throughout patients stay; independently performs the nutrition care process including nutrition assessment diagnosis intervention monitoring and evaluation specific to age and medical collaboration with team develops an interdisciplinary nutrition plan of care for patients within a specialty population and attends rounds. Provides education training and expertise as a professional resource to members of the healthcare team as well as dietetic interns to advance their development in the field. This position includes a weekend and on call rotation. Experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition preferred. All levels of experience welcome. This position includes occasional weekend and on call rotations.
II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Provide medical nutrition therapy to adult inpatients at nutrition risk including those receiving enteral or parenteral nutrition in a community based clinical setting.
- In collaboration with team develops an interdisciplinary nutrition plan of care for patients within a specialty population and attends rounds.
- Discusses plan of nutrition care with patient/and or family; electronically documents nutrition plan of care and education provided.
- Actively contributes to teamwork (cooperates with peers flexible w/cross coverage) and achievement of department goals; attends staff meetings.
- Provides education training and expertise as a professional resource to members of the healthcare team.
- Attends and/or participates in various in-service continuing education credits external training workshops and conferences to maintain state licensure. Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice.
- This position includes occasional weekends. All levels of experience welcome. Advanced certification not required.
- New team members are aligned with senior team member for mentoring and support.
Qualifications :
III. Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Food and Nutrition Dietetics or related field required.
- Registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) required.
- Current licensure in the state of Maryland as a Dietitian/Nutritionist required.
- Clinical experience is preferred as a Registered Dietitian at a hospital facility.
- Prior completion of a Specialty Fellowship Program or Specialty Certification: e.g. CNSC CDE CSR preferred.
IV. Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of anatomy physiology biochemistry and pharmacology as they relate to nutrition is required to make clinical decisions regarding a patients nutritional care plan.
- Effective verbal written and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate with patients and in making recommendations to physicians and other allied health professionals related to the patients plan of nutrition care.
