Job Summary

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Tower Hamlets to assist with the appointment of a HOST Casework Officer on a 5-month contract likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 23.16 - 23.16 per Hour

Summary:

This role provides specialist housing options statutory homelessness assessment and discharge planning support to patients in hospitals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The postholder works directly across hospital wards multidisciplinary teams and council housing services to ensure safe and timely hospital discharge into suitable accommodation.

A strong Local Authority background experience completing Section 184 decisions and in-depth knowledge of The Housing Act 1996 Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all housing-related hospital discharge referrals for Tower Hamlets residents.
  • Attend MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) meetings across hospitals (Royal London Newham Mile End and others).
  • Conduct full homelessness assessments under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996.
  • Keep up to date with housing and homelessness legislation case law and policy direction.
  • Ensure all work aligns with the Councils safeguarding responsibilities for vulnerable adults and young people.

Requirements:

  • Local Authority background in homelessness housing options or statutory casework.
  • Proven experience writing Section 184 decision letters and statutory homelessness assessments.
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients in crisis settings (ideally hospital discharge).
  • Experience working in fast-paced multi-agency environments.
  • In-depth understanding of:
    • Housing Act 1996 (as amended)
    • Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
    • Homelessness Act 2002
    • Housing legislation case law & homelessness prevention tools
    • Care Act & Equality Act (as they relate to vulnerable adults)
    • Housing benefit rules and London housing markets
  • Awareness of rough sleeping pathways supported accommodation and PRS access.
