Job Summary
The Design Engineer I Electrical will complete routine engineering work on projects of varying sizes under the supervision of experienced engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Adopt a positive attitude of accountability by providing reliable constructible affordable and timely solutions (RCAT) resulting in Providence being the Engineer of Choice
Perform routine or entry-level engineering tasks neatly accurately and efficiently to meet budget hours estimate provided by supervisor
Prepare engineering calculations and minor designs while developing skills to take professional engineer exam for licensing
Work on multiple concurrent projects for various project managers and sometimes for other branches
Document project experience for NCEES record to facilitate future licensure
After gaining experience prepare hours estimates for project proposals for use by project manager
Develop communications skills through correspondence and coordination with internal clients
Attend design meetings construction meetings and site visits with experienced engineer
Comply with company policies and procedures
Participate in continuing education webinars and education sessions
Participate in networking and Young Professionals events
Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge Experience and Skills
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Architectural Engineering with electrical emphasis or a closely related field is required
Complete and pass Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE)
0-2 years of related experience as a student intern or employment experience as an Engineer-in-Training highly preferred
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to use computer software for modeling elements of electrical distribution systems and design and rendering of lighting fixture layouts in concert with hand-written calculations; software includes SKM ETAP or Easy Power for electrical distribution system modeling and Visual or Agi 32 for lighting system design and rendering
Ability to present hand-written calculations in an organized and legible manner
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software to maintain accurate project records
