Are you a detail-oriented surveyor ready to make a tangible impact on Hawaiis public lands The Department of Design and Construction Land Division Sewers and Drainage Survey Section is looking for a Journey-Level Land Surveyor to tackle moderate difficult land surveys prepare precise maps and research historical land records that guide critical decisions for land management development and conversation. This role combines technical skill analytical thinking and knowledge of Hawaiis land history. This is an exciting opportunity for Land Surveyors who are passionate about precision enjoy solving challenging surveying problems and take pride in mapping out Hawaiis aina.

What You Will Do:
  • Use Coordinate Geometry (COGO) and Computer-Aided Drafting Design (CADD) software to calculate closures plot boundaries and prepare topographic and boundary maps.
  • Conduct detailed research using Hawaiian land laws Land Court rules historical decisions and land tenure history to support survey determinations.
  • Perform moderately difficult calculations including triangulation computations magnetic survey correction and survey closures ensuring accuracy in all survey results.
  • Conduct fieldwork as required verify boundaries re-establish corners and collect survey data using modern instruments and methods.
  • Review and verify maps and descriptions prepared by by other agencies or private entities for accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepared detailed documentation of survey methods findings and recommendations.
  • Perform other related duties of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors degree in Land Surveying Geo-Science or an Engineering Specialty.

Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge skills and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.

For example:
1. Four years of professional work experience in any occupation may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
2. Four years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level) as a journey level Drafting Technician journey level Engineering Technician or similar area related to land surveying work may substitute for a general bachelors degree.

Education must have been completed by the time of application in order to be credited. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education proper documentation e.g. a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.

EXPEREINCE REQUIREMENT:
Twoyears of non-registered professional land surveying experience one of which must have included the application of Hawaii land laws Land Court rules decisions and procedures and Hawaiis land tenure history.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Current valid drivers license (Type 3/automobile) prior to appointment.
