This role will be based in our Chicago office on a hybrid basis. Some in-office presence may be required for day-to-day operations as well as for team meetings training opportunities and relationship building. This role reports to the Chief Talent Officer.
Position Summary:
The Talent Services Business Partner provides strategic support to assigned Shared Services departments (professional development) in the areas of performance management training and development employee relations policy administration and other areas within the Talent Services department.
Key Responsibilities:
Works closely with department heads and Shared Services directors to provide Talent Services solutions that align with and support the business initiatives of their respective departments
Serves as staffing resource and responsible for recruitment of staff; sources screens and identifies candidates for employment; reviews applications prepares offer letters conducts reference checks and administers background checks
Translates assigned departments strategy and priorities into a people strategy
Aligns Talent Services programs to support business plans; monitors progress and drives projects to successful completion
Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the Talent Services team to develop solutions programs and policies
Works with management team to conduct talent reviews and identify gaps; collaborates with departments and Professional Development to identify career paths and resources for training and skill development; ensures all training requirements are completed
Works with management and staff to identify ways to build morale enhance engagement and increase retention
Provides guidance and input on workforce and succession planning
Handles and resolves complex employee relations issues; provides support and coaching to managers on employee related issues. (e.g. coaching counseling career development disciplinary actions etc.)
Advises and coaches leaders and managers on the talent implications of business decisions providing an objective perspective
Manages performance management process for assigned departments including Performance Improvement Plans and corrective actions where appropriate
Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation; ensures compliance with federal and state laws
Assists Shared Services directors with annual salary and bonus administration
Monitors industry developments and keeps apprised of new developments trends tools and solutions affecting their respective areas
Supports change management and the communication of related changes
Fosters communication across the department; proactively identifies issues and facilitates resolution
Processes new hire and separation paperwork; makes HRIS transactions and ensures data integrity
Qualifications
Skills & Competencies:
Understands best practices in the field of Human Resources; general knowledge of employment laws and practices
Knowledge of the legal industry and strong business acumen
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and collaborate well in a team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) professional demeanor and presentation
Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and effectively prioritize multiple tasks
Analytical with strong problem-solving skills takes initiative and uses good judgment excellent follow-up skills
Provide outstanding client service meet high quality standards for services and meet or exceed client expectations
Education & Prior Experience:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources Business management or related field
Minimum of eight years experience in Human Resources Business management or related field preferably in a law firm environment including prior management/supervisory experience
Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit
Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) or SHRM-CP/SCP certification preferred
Technology:
Experience with ATS and HRIS systems (preferably Workday)
Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word PowerPoint Excel and Outlook
Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
The expected pay range for this position is:
$100000 to $130000 per year
Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience location and other job-related factors permitted by law.
